A Prayer of Humble Return

"And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants." - Luke 15:19

"And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants." - Luke 15:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I bow before You today, my heart is heavy with the weight of my own failings and shortcomings. I come before You, reflecting on the words of Luke 15:19, ‘And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.’ Lord, this verse resonates deeply within my spirit. It speaks to the profound humility and desperation I often feel in my journey of faith. I recognize that I am unworthy of the grace You have freely given, yet You have made me a child of the King. Your love is unfathomable, and yet so often I have chosen to wander, to stray from Your path, much like the prodigal son who found himself in want and despair.

Father, I confess that I have indulged in pride, allowing my sins to lead me far away from the comfort of Your embrace. I have sought satisfaction in the fleeting pleasures of this world while ignoring the gentle whispers of Your Spirit calling me home. In my moments of weakness, I have chosen to forget my identity in You – as a beloved child, valued and cherished. Instead, I have allowed guilt and shame to cloud my vision, making me feel that I am unworthy to return to You.

Lord God, I come before You now, humbled and aware of my need for Your mercy. Just like the son in the parable, I recognize that I strayed from my position and purpose, believing the lies that I am beyond redemption. Yet You remind me that Your arms are always open, ready to receive me back into the fold. Your grace is greater than my failures, and Your love is deeper than my regrets.

As I stand at this crossroads, I echo the words of the son: I am no more worthy to be called Your child. Yet, I implore You, make me as one of Your hired servants. I long to serve You, to labor in Your kingdom, and to live out my days in obedience and gratitude. Help me to put aside the sense of entitlement that often creeps into my heart and replace it with a spirit of servitude. Teach me how to count it a privilege to serve in Your name, to look for ways to glorify You through my actions, my words, and my choices.

Oh Lord, fill me with a heart like Yours, one that seeks to love and serve others as a reflection of Your love for me. I pray for the strength to cast away the burdens of pride and self-righteousness. Remind me daily that true fulfillment is found not in elevating myself but in yielding to Your will and loving those around me selflessly. May I find joy in the work You set before me, and may I always be mindful that I was once lost, but now I am found; I was once broken, but now I am made whole through Your grace.

With every step I take back to You, Lord, may I feel Your embrace wrap around me, reminding me that I belong to You. Though I may feel unworthy, help me to remember that in You, I am worthy, not because of my actions, but because of Your love and sacrifice on my behalf.

I surrender my heart and my soul to You, trusting that You will guide me back to the true home I seek. May my life be a testament to Your unending grace, and may I always be ready to testify of Your goodness, calling others to find their way back to You as well. Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer and for the promise of restoration that You offer to all who will turn back to You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
