A Prayer to Seek Diligently and Rejoice in What God Restores
"Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find [it]? And when she hath found [it], she calleth [her] friends and [her] neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost." - Luke 15:8-9

Father in heaven, I come before Thee in reverence and trust, thanking Thee for Thy Word that searches my heart and calls me back to what matters most. Thou hast spoken through the holy Scriptures, and I hear the voice of Thy truth in the words of our Lord: “Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?” Lord, I confess that I have often treated what is precious too lightly. I have allowed distractions to gather like dust in the rooms of my soul. I have rushed through days without the carefulness of love. Yet Thou art the God who notices what is missing, the God who does not ignore the one that is lost, the God who seeks with purpose and does not rest until that which is precious is found.
O Lord, light Thy candle within me. Shine Thy holy light into every hidden corner—into my motives, my habits, my memory, and my desires. Let nothing remain in darkness that ought to be brought into Thy presence. As Thou dost expose what is out of place, give me humility to agree with Thee. Give me courage to let Thee reorder my house. Teach me to “sweep the house,” not merely outwardly with appearance and religious routine, but inwardly with repentance and sincerity. Sweep away pride that resists correction. Sweep away bitterness that clings to old wounds. Sweep away fear that keeps me from obedience. Sweep away apathy that numbs my devotion. Sweep away the clutter of unnecessary things that crowd out prayer, drown out Scripture, and weaken my hunger for Thy righteousness.
Lord, make me diligent in seeking. Thy Word says she would “seek diligently till she find it.” So grant me holy persistence. When I have lost peace, lead me to seek Thy face until peace returns. When I have lost joy, remind me that it is found in Thy presence and not in my circumstances. When I have lost clarity, guide me to Thy truth again, and keep me from leaning on my own understanding. When I have lost love for others, soften my heart and restore to me compassion and patience. When I have lost time through wasted hours, teach me wisdom to redeem the days. When I have lost boldness in witness, rekindle faith and help me speak of Thy goodness without shame.
And, Father, I pray not only for myself but for those around me. For every soul that feels misplaced, forgotten, or beyond recovery, let this passage be their hope: Thou art the God who seeks. Thou art the God who finds. Thou art the God who restores. Help me to reflect Thy heart—steady, patient, and determined. Make me willing to light a candle for others: to bring truth gently, to offer prayer faithfully, to pursue reconciliation diligently, and to love in a way that does not give up easily.
Lord, when Thou hast found what was lost in me—when Thou hast restored what sin had scattered, when Thou hast recovered what sorrow had buried, when Thou hast reclaimed what neglect had misplaced—teach me to respond with gratitude and testimony. For the Scripture says, “And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost.” So let me rejoice with Thee. Let me rejoice in Thy mercy. Let me rejoice in Thy patience. Let me rejoice in every small restoration and every great deliverance. And give me a spirit that invites others to rejoice too—so that my story becomes a song of Thy faithfulness, and my gratitude becomes encouragement to the weary.
I praise Thee, Lord, because Thou art not careless with what belongs to Thee. I am Thine, and all that Thou hast entrusted to me is Thine. Keep me watchful. Keep me tenderhearted. Keep me diligent. And as Thou dost work in my life, let my home, my thoughts, and my days be filled with Thy light, ordered by Thy hand, and marked by rejoicing in Thy saving grace.
I pray all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
