A Prayer for the Innocence of Children

"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." - Luke 18:16

"But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." - Luke 18:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

I come before You with a heart filled with gratitude and reverence for Your Word, which teaches us wisdom and reveals Your eternal truth. Today, I reflect upon the words of our Lord Jesus as recorded in Luke 18:16, where He tenderly calls, "Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God." Lord, this simple yet profound invitation resonates deeply within my soul, reminding me of the purity, innocence, and unblemished faith that children possess.

O Lord, how often do we overlook the significance of these words! In a world that often marginalizes the vulnerable and innocent, You remind us of the importance of welcoming children with open arms. I pray that You ignite within our hearts a similar love and compassion for the little ones You have entrusted to us. Help us to recognize their value not only as the future of our communities but also as cherished members of Your Kingdom.

Father, as we gather in prayer today, I beseech You to bless every child in our lives – our own, those within our families, our neighborhoods, and across the globe. Protect them from the perils and injustices of this world. Shield their tender hearts from the hurt and pain that can occur all too soon. May they always find solace and safety in Your presence. May they experience the love and warmth of their parents, guardians, and communities, reflecting Your love for them.

Dear Father, I also pray for the adults who have the privilege of caring for these children. Grant us wisdom and discernment to raise them in Your ways. Teach us to nurture them not only with words but also through our actions. Let us be models of kindness, patience, and grace, fostering an environment where they can learn and thrive in their identities as beloved children of God. Help us to instill in them the values of love, justice, compassion, and empathy.

In Your infinite wisdom, You chose to highlight the Kingdom’s essence through the simplicity of a child. Let us, Lord, examine our hearts and find the humility to approach You as they do. Open our eyes to see that the way into Your Kingdom is through childlike faith – unencumbered by doubt, free from cynicism, and filled with wonder. Forgive us for the times we have cast judgments or let the world’s distractions take away the purity of our convictions.

Help me, O God, to always reflect Your love in my dealings with children, to listen to their laughter, and to witness the world through their eyes. Remind me of the beauty and innocence that resides in their hearts, and inspire me to be a protector of their joys.

Lord Jesus, as You beckoned the little ones to Yourself, may we also bring our children to You through prayer, teaching, and example. I pray that they grow in the knowledge of Your love and grace, understanding that they are cherished and significant in this vast and complex world. Let them find peace in You, knowing they can always run to their Father for comfort, guidance, and strength.

Finally, dear God, I pray that we, the church and community, take seriously the call to support and love children, ensuring no one is left behind or forgotten. Inspire us to advocate for the oppressed and vulnerable, lifting their voices and shining Your light in their lives.

Thank You, Lord, for the gift of children and for the reminder of Your Kingdom's nature. May we strive to embody the values You’ve instilled in us through their presence. In the glorious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
