A Prayer of Remembrance and Gratitude
"When the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." - Luke 22:14-20

Dear Heavenly Father,
As we gather before You, our hearts are filled with deep reverence and gratitude for the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We come to You in prayer, reflecting on the sacred moments that transpired during that profound Passover meal described in Luke 22:14-20. As we meditate on these verses, we are led to the very essence of our faith—a remembrance of love, sacrifice, and the promise of eternal life.
When the hour was come, Lord, You sat down with the twelve apostles, a moment filled with significance and anticipation. You shared with them the weight of what was to come, and with a heart full of desire, You expressed Your longing to share this Passover meal. We are reminded, Lord, that You yearn for closeness and communion with us. You invite us to sit with You at the table, to partake in Your grace and love.
In this moment, we humbly seek to be in fellowship with You, recognizing that our souls thirst for the living water that only You can provide. May we be aware of Your presence in our lives, especially in times of struggle and trial. We thank You that, just as You desired to be with Your disciples, You desire to be with us, to share in our joys, and to comfort us in our pains.
You proclaimed, "With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer." These words resonate within us, reminding us of the immense love and commitment You showed to humanity through Your impending sacrifice. Lord, as we approach the season of reflection, we ask that You help us grasp the depth of Your suffering. May we not shy away from the truth of the cross, where Your body was broken and Your blood was shed for us.
We thank You for the cup and the bread, symbols of Your sacrifice and a testament to the new covenant established in Your blood. You took the cup, gave thanks, and instructed Your disciples, saying, "Take this, and divide it among yourselves... This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."
Help us, Lord, to cherish this covenant and the profound implications it holds for our lives. As we break bread and share the cup, let us remember the price of our redemption, and may these acts stir in us a sense of unity as we become one body in Christ. Let the remembrance of Your sacrifice lead us to a deeper relationship with You and with one another.
May our hearts be filled with gratitude, dear Lord, for the gift of Your body and blood. Each time we gather around the table—whether in a church setting or in the intimacy of our homes—let us take a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks. Teach us not to take lightly the privileges of communion, but rather let it be a sacred remembrance that fuels our desire to follow You more closely.
As we reflect on Your words, we are reminded that You did not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God shall come. In this, we find hope. We look forward to the day when You will return, and together with all Your people, we will share in the fullness of Your kingdom. Until then, grant us strength and courage to live in a manner worthy of the calling we have received.
Lord Jesus, You are the bread of life, and we find our nourishment in You alone. May we be conduits of Your love and grace, serving others and inviting them to the feast of Your mercy. Help us to be ever mindful of what it means to live in remembrance of You.
In Jesus’ Holy Name, we pray.
Amen.

Luke 22:14-20 - "When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you."
