A Prayer for Deliverance and Faith in the Face of Mockery
"And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God." - Luke 23:35

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You in prayer, I am reminded of the profound moment captured in the Gospel of Luke, where the onlookers stood witness to the unfathomable anguish of Your Son, our Savior. In Luke 23:35, it is written: "And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God." Lord, I stand in awe of the sacrifice that was made upon that cross, a moment wherein humanity’s mockery echoed through the ages, yet Your grace prevailed.
I begin this prayer by asking for Your mercy to envelop me as I reflect on the derision faced by Jesus. In the face of such bitter disdain, He remained steadfast, embodying a love so profound that He willingly accepted the scorn and ridicule of the rulers and the people. Father, teach me to respond to my own moments of mockery and derision with humility and grace. When the world casts judgment or expresses disbelief in my faith journey, grant me the strength to follow Christ’s example – to love those who do not understand rather than retaliate with words of anger. Help me to hold on to the truth of my faith and remember that Your love is greater than all mockery that may come my way.
Lord, I acknowledge that in our lives, similar to what Christ endured, there are moments when we may feel abandoned, ridiculed, or unrecognized for the good we have done. The rulers in Jerusalem questioned Christ’s divinity, demanding evidence of His power, doubting the very essence of who He was. In my own life, there are occasions when my faith is challenged, when I am asked to justify my belief in the unseen. In those moments, remind me that faith is not always visible, nor does it need to be validated by others. It is an inward conviction, a deeply held certainty of Your love and the truth of Your word.
I pray for those who walk in similar shadows of scorn, who experience doubt from friends, loved ones, or even society at large. Lord, help them find solace and strength in knowing that they are in good company. When we feel alone in our struggles, remind us that the greatest sacrifice endured not just physical suffering, but emotional agony, being mocked and scorned for our righteousness.
May this moment inspire us to reflect deeply upon the words spoken by those rulers, realizing that just as they crowned their own understanding of power with mockery, we too may be tempted to align ourselves with popular belief over the truth of Your word. Keep my heart attuned to your voice, that I may stand firm in my convictions, holding tightly to faith, even when the world attempts to pull me away.
Father, I also offer a prayer for those who deride, for those who are quick to judge or ridicule, unaware of the depth of their actions. I pray for their hearts to be softened, that they may come to know Your truth and the love that flows freely from Your throne. Help us to confront mockery with compassion and to respond with a heart willing to understand and forgive, as your Son did. May my life shine brightly, demonstrating the love of Christ to those who do not yet see, creating a bridge of faith instead of a division wrought by ridicule.
As I conclude this prayer, I affirm my trust in Your divine plan, recognizing that even in mockery and scorn, Your will is accomplished. I thank You for the incredible gift of salvation, for the grace that comes through Jesus’ compliance with the Father’s will, even unto death on the cross. Help me to live boldly in faith, reflecting the essence of Christ, strengthened by the very trials that the world may place on me. May my focus remain on You, the Chosen God, for in faith I find true freedom.
In the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, I pray,
Amen.
