A Prayer of Resurrection Hope and Faith
"On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 'The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' " Then they remembered his words. When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened." - Luke 24:1-12

O Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude and praise as we reflect upon the miraculous event that unfolded on the first day of the week, as recorded in Luke 24:1-12. Your power and glory were displayed in the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
"On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb." As the sun rose on that glorious morning, we are reminded of the persistent faith and devotion of those women. They came with spices, expecting to anoint a lifeless body, burdened by grief and despair. Lord, may we have the same commitment to seek You earnestly, to rise early in our lives and pursue You, even in the midst of our sorrow and challenges. Help us to prepare our hearts, like the women prepared their spices, to meet You, expecting transformation and hope.
“...They found the stone rolled away from the tomb…” Father, how profound is it that the very stone meant to seal away hope was moved! In our own lives, there may be stones that feel insurmountable – obstacles, doubts, and fears that weigh heavy upon our hearts. We pray, Lord, that You would roll away those stones that hinder us from experiencing Your life and victory. Help us to trust that You have the power to remove what stands between us and Your promises.
"...but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus." Oh, Lord, how often do we search in the wrong places for hope? The tomb was a place of death, and yet the women found it empty. Teach us, we pray, to look for the living among the living, to find joy in the places where we expect to see despair. Help us to remember that death in You leads to life everlasting.
“While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.” Lord, in moments of uncertainty, we often feel alone. Yet, You send Your messengers, angels of light, to guide us and remind us of Your promises. Open our spiritual eyes, so we may see Your hand at work in our lives. We long for those divine encounters that bring clarity to our wondering hearts.
"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!" What a question, dear Lord! Let it resonate within us. How often do we search for life in places of darkness? Teach us, Father, to recognize the living Christ in our midst. May we cling to the truth that Jesus has risen, that He is alive, and because He lives, we too shall live abundantly.
“Remember how he told you... 'The Son of Man must be delivered...'“ We stand on the promises of Your Word. Help us to remember all that You have shared with us, to hold onto Your teachings, and to understand that You are faithful—even when we doubt. May our remembrance strengthen our faith as we testify of Your goodness and live in the light of Your resurrection.
As the women returned from the tomb, they shared the good news with the Eleven. Yet, their words were dismissed as nonsense. Lord, we pray for boldness to share the truths of Your resurrection, even when met with skepticism. Grant us the courage of Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and the others. We pray for open hearts and minds to receive the truth of Your resurrection around us as well.
Finally, we echo the footsteps of Peter, who ran to the tomb, bending over to see for himself. Instill within us a desire to witness firsthand the wonders of Your resurrection power. May our lives embody the wonder and awe that comes from knowing You, ever curious and ever passionate about exploring the depths of our faith.
In the name of the risen Christ, we pray. Amen.
