A Prayer of Humble Repentance and Awakening
"When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord." - Luke 5:8

O Lord Jesus,
As I kneel before You today, I am reminded of the profound moment captured in the verse from Luke 5:8, where Simon Peter, overwhelmed by Your divine presence, cried out in humble recognition of his own unworthiness, saying, "Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord." Lord, I come before You with a heart that mirrors that of Peter’s, in deep reverence and acknowledgment of who You are and who I am in light of Your holiness.
Heavenly Father, I recognize that just as Peter stood in awe before You by the shores of Lake Gennesaret, I too stand here today, confronted by the reality of my sin. It is easy, Lord, to become complacent and lose sight of the gravity of my transgressions—those moments when I have chosen my own path over Your guidance, when I have allowed pride to blind me from Your truth. Lord, You know my heart, my innermost thoughts, and every hidden sin I strive to hide from the world. Yet, in Your presence, I know that everything is laid bare, and I can no longer keep my facade intact.
As I reflect on Simon Peter’s plea, I am reminded of my own need for repentance. In recognizing my sinful nature, I open my heart to Your grace and mercy. I repent of my actions and words, of my thoughts that stray from the path of righteousness, and of my inaction when faced with opportunities to reflect Your love. Lord, cleanse me of the burdens I carry, the guilt that weighs upon my heart, and the sin that separates me from You. I acknowledge that nothing I can do will make me worthy of Your love; it is a divine gift I can only receive in humility.
Jesus, help me to see the depth of Your mercy. When Peter exclaimed his unworthiness, he did so in contrast to Your greatness, yet You did not depart from him. In fact, You called him to be a fisher of men. Thank You, Lord, for Your endless grace, for Your patience with me. Teach me to embrace that grace, to understand that my identity is found not in my sin, but in the salvation You offer. Reassure me that in my brokenness, I am still worthy of Your love and calling.
Father, I desire to be changed by Your presence just as Simon Peter was transformed on that day by the shore. Let me fall at Your feet not only in moments of sorrow for my sin but also in joy for Your unchanging love. Let my heart be a sanctuary where Your Spirit dwells, guiding me every day. Lord, I long to serve You with the same passion and fervor that overcame Peter after Your resurrection. Help me to set aside my fears and insecurities, emboldened by the truth that You choose to use broken vessels like me for Your Kingdom.
In my life, may I reflect Your light to those around me. May my humble acknowledgment of my sins lead others to see Your grace at work. Help me not to dwell in self-condemnation but to focus on the redemptive love You poured out on the cross. Teach me to share my testimony, revealing how You have rescued me, for from this place of humility springs forth a fountain of gratitude and worship.
Lord, as I rise from this prayer, I pray that I would carry with me Peter’s response—a heart full of reverence, a spirit eager to follow, and a life dedicated to glorifying Your name. Let my words on each day be sacred offerings of praise, and my actions reflect the calling You have on my life.
Thank You for never departing from me, even when I feel undeserving. Mold me, make me, and send me out into the world as a witness to Your love and mercy.
In Your holy name, I pray, Amen.
