A Prayer for Preparation and Hospitality

"And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him." - Luke 9:52

"And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him." - Luke 9:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You today, I am filled with gratitude and awe for Your infinite wisdom and love. Your word, as recorded in Luke 9:52—"And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him"—reminds me of the importance of preparation and the readiness we are called to embody in our lives as followers of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Lord, I thank You for the example that Jesus set during His earthly ministry. He did not assume that people would be ready to receive Him. Instead, He took the time to send His messengers ahead of Him, to prepare the hearts and minds of those He was about to reach. I pray that, like those messengers, I may be a willing servant, ready to share the good news of Your Kingdom with those around me. Help me recognize that preparation is not just about physical arrangements, but it is also about preparing the spiritual atmosphere for Your presence to dwell among us.

In our lives today, we often find ourselves caught up in our daily routines, neglecting the call to prepare ourselves for Your work. I ask for Your forgiveness, Lord, for the times I have turned a blind eye to opportunities to serve or share Your love with others. Help me to be vigilant and attentive to the nudges of Your Holy Spirit, so that I might see where You are leading me.

I pray that You instill in me a heart that is eager to make ready for Your presence in every situation. Teach me to lay aside my own plans and expectations, much like the messengers who set out with the purpose of making arrangements for Jesus. May I have the courage to enter unfamiliar places, just as they entered the village of the Samaritans, knowing that You are with me and that Your purpose will prevail.

Lord, grant me a spirit of hospitality, so that I can open my heart and home to those in need, especially the ones who feel marginalized or overlooked. Like the village that was prepared to welcome Jesus, may my life be a welcoming place for all—friends, family, and strangers alike. Teach me to value each encounter as an opportunity to reflect Your love and grace.

Father, I pray for the unity of Your people in these times of division. The Samaritans and Jews were often at odds with one another, yet Your Son reached out to them all. May we move past our differences and work toward a common goal, to make ready for You in our communities. Help us to be peacemakers, bridging gaps and healing wounds, just as our Savior exemplified through His ministry.

As I set out each day, I ask that You guide my thoughts, words, and actions, so that they may serve to prepare the way for others to receive Your message of hope and love. May my life be a beacon of light, drawing others closer to You. In whatever tasks I undertake—be it small or substantial—help me to do them with zeal and dedication, for Your glory.

Finally, I pray for those who have yet to embrace Your love. May You stir their hearts and open their minds, so they may be receptive to the good news of salvation. Just as the messengers prepared the way for Jesus, let me be an instrument of Your peace and a conduit of Your grace.

Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of being Your messenger in this world. I trust that as I seek to prepare for You, Your presence will bring transformation and renewal in the lives of many.

In Jesus’ Name, I pray,

Amen.
