Prayer for Forgiveness and Grace
"But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." - Mark 11:26

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a heart burdened by the weight of my transgressions, both those I have committed and those I have failed to forgive in others. Your Word reminds me in Mark 11:26, "But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." These words echo deeply within my soul, urging me to reflect on the grace I have received and the grace I must extend to others.
Lord, I acknowledge that forgiveness is a divine gift, a reflection of the love and mercy You have shown me through Your Son, Jesus Christ. You have forgiven my countless sins, my failures, and my shortcomings—those moments when I have strayed far from Your ways. As I stand in the light of Your perfect love, I am reminded of how often I have sought Your forgiveness, and I realize that to hold onto unforgiveness in my own heart is to cut myself off from the flow of Your divine grace.
Help me, O God, to let go of any resentment, bitterness, or hurt that I may harbor toward those who have wronged me. Remind me of the parable of the unforgiving servant, who, despite being forgiven his enormous debt, refused to forgive a fellow servant of a trivial amount. May I not find myself in such a position. Instead, let my heart be softened and my spirit be willing to extend the same mercy and compassion that You so freely give to me.
I pray for those who have wronged me, Lord. I ask that You grant them Your mercy and peace. I desire to release them from the burden of my anger, to remove the chains that bind us in this cycle of hurt and resentment. Empower me to pray for them, to seek their good, and to wish them well—even when it is hard. Show me, Lord, how to love as You love, without conditions or limits.
As I seek to forgive, I also acknowledge the pain I feel. Help me to process these emotions safely and to understand that my wounds are valid. Let me not ignore them, but rather bring them to You, so You may heal my heart. I entrust my pain to You, trusting that in Your perfect timing and wisdom, You will bring restoration and peace. Fill my heart with Your love, that it may overflow, allowing me to see others through Your eyes, transforming my perspective from one of judgment and indignation to compassion and empathy.
Lord, I desire to cultivate a spirit of forgiveness daily. Help me to remember the weight of what I have been forgiven and to let that grace flow freely from me to those around me. Guard my heart from the temptation to cling to grudges or rehearse my pain. Instead, may I choose daily to surrender my hurt to You and seek to embody the spirit of Your forgiveness in my interactions with others.
As I venture forth into my day, let Your presence be my guide. Remind me of this important truth—To forgive is not to excuse the wrong but to release its hold on my heart. Let my heart beat in rhythm with Your unwavering love and mercy. Let forgiveness flow like a river, washing away the bitterness that so easily entangles and ensnares.
Thank You, Lord, for hearing my prayer. Thank You for Your promise of forgiveness and the grace that accompanies it. May I live in the light of that grace, reflecting Your love to everyone I encounter. Today, I choose to forgive, and in doing so, I seek to become more like You.
In Jesus' precious name, I pray. Amen.
