A Prayer of Acknowledgment and Commitment
"She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying." - Mark 14:8

O Eternal and Gracious Father,
We come before You today with hearts full of reverence and humble adoration, inspired by the words of Your Son in Mark 14:8, "She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying." Lord, we stand in awe of the sacrificial love and devotion displayed by the woman who dared to break societal norms, to honor You in the midst of judgment and scorn. May we, too, find courage to express our love and devotion to You, giving of ourselves in a world that often overlooks the importance of humble service.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gifts and abilities You have given to each of us. In light of this passage, we are reminded that it is not the magnitude of our actions but the purity of our intentions that You cherish. Help us to grasp the full weight of this truth as we navigate our daily lives. May we find joy in serving You through our unique gifts, regardless of how big or small they may seem in comparison to others. Let us submissively embrace the calling that You have placed in our hearts, knowing that each act of kindness, each offering of our time and talent, is significant in Your kingdom.
Lord, we often find ourselves caught in the chaos of modern life, distracted by the endless demands of work, social obligations, and personal desires. We confess that we can be hesitant to step out in faith, worried about judgment and the opinions of those around us. Yet, let the boldness of that woman in Bethany inspire us. Give us the faith to act, even when it seems illogical or unwelcome. May we remember that our devotion to You is far more important than the approval of man.
As we reflect on her act of devotion, let us be reminded of the profound importance of preparing our hearts for Your presence. Help us to come before You, to prepare ourselves to encounter You in the depths of our souls. Teach us to listen to Your voice and to anoint our spirits with the oils of worship, prayer, and scripture study. Imbue us, O Lord, with the desire to come close to You, to understand the weight of Your eternal sacrifice, and to pour out the fragrant oil of our love upon You, as she did.
Father, we pray for a spirit of generosity to flow within us. Just as the woman recognized Your imminent sacrifice and prepared for it in advance, guide us to anticipate and respond to the needs of those around us. Show us how to be a balm of comfort, healing, and hope in a hurting world. For indeed, the greatest gift we can offer is our love and service toward others, reflecting the love that You have showered upon us. Help us to seek opportunities to serve; may our eyes be opened to the cries of those in need, and may our hands be willing to help however we can.
May our lives echo the essence of that beautiful act of anointing You before Your burial. Each moment we spend with You—the time we devote to prayer, meditation, and obedience—becomes our offering, anointing our lives for Your glory. Open our hearts to embody this spirit of devotion richly. Make us vessels of honor, filled with the sweet fragrance of Your love.
We lay our lives before You, O Lord, and ask for the strength to do what we can, with what we have, and where we are. As we take up this charge, may we ever remember the words of our Savior with gratitude and a renewed commitment to live in service to You.
In the name of Jesus, the Anointed One, we pray,
Amen.
