A Prayer of Preparation for Passover: Seeking Divine Guidance
"¶ And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?" - Mark 14:12

O Heavenly Father,
As we come before Thee in reverence and awe, we are reminded of the profound significance of the events that unfolded in the days leading up to the crucifixion of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
In Mark 14:12, we read, "And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?" These words echo the heart of preparation, an invitation to seek Thy will and direction. Lord, as we reflect on this moment, we recognize the importance of preparation in our lives; not only in terms of physical need but more importantly in preparing our hearts and minds for the sacred encounter with You.
We honor this first day of unleavened bread, a time that commemorates the exodus of Thy people from bondage in Egypt, a pivotal moment in the history of salvation. This day marks the beginning of a period of reflection, gratitude, and anticipation. Just as the disciples sought Thy guidance in preparing for the Passover meal, we too find ourselves seeking Thy wisdom and insight in our own lives and circumstances.
Lord, grant us the humility to ask, "Where wilt Thou that we go?" Help us to be attentive to Thy voice amidst the clamor of our daily existence. In our busy lives, it is all too easy to forget to seek Your will, to prepare our hearts for Your presence. We confess, O Lord, that we often take charge of our own plans, forgetting that the richest blessings come when we align our efforts with Your divine purpose.
As the disciples were tasked with preparing the place for the Passover meal, we too are called to prepare our hearts and our homes. Strengthen us to remember the significance of this meal, which not only commemorates the past but foreshadows the eternal covenant established through Christ’s sacrifice. May our preparations reflect a deep reverence for this sacred time, as we gather with family and friends to remember the great deliverance You have provided.
Father, help us to examine our lives, to cleanse ourselves of any leaven that might hinder our fellowship with You. May this time of preparation bring us to a place of repentance and restoration. As we reflect on our shortcomings and sins, we pray for a spirit of humility and contrition, recognizing the weight of the cross that Jesus bore for our salvation.
We pray that the spirit of unity and love permeates our gatherings during this time. Just as the disciples came together for the Last Supper, may we approach our time together with open hearts and minds, seeking to serve and uplift one another. Allow the bonds of love to grow stronger as we reflect on Thy goodness and mercy through our shared experiences of faith.
And as we prepare, we ask for Thy provision, wisdom, and guidance. Help us discern the ways we can serve one another in our families, communities, and churches. May we reflect Thy light and love to those around us, extending invitations of grace and hospitality as we celebrate the goodness of the Passover.
Lord, let us not forget the ultimate purpose of our preparations: to remember, to celebrate, and to anticipate the glorious resurrection of our Savior. May this season of reflection stir within us an eagerness to proclaim His goodness, to testify to His grace, and to share His love with all those we encounter.
We thank You, O God, for the invitation to prepare, to engage with our faith, and to celebrate the deliverance You have granted us through Jesus Christ our Lord. May our hearts be ever seeking, ever yearning for Your presence, that we might live in the fullness of this joyful season.
In the name of Jesus, who is our Passover Lamb, we pray. Amen.

Mark 14:12-26 - "On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, when it was customary to sacrifice the Passover lamb, Jesus’ disciples asked him, “Where do you want us to go and make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” So he sent two of his disciples, telling them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. Say to the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.” The disciples left, went into the city and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover. When evening came, Jesus arrived with the Twelve. While they were reclining at the table eating, he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me—one who is eating with me.” They were saddened, and one by one they said to him, “Surely you don’t mean me?” “It is one of the Twelve,” he replied, “one who dips bread into the bowl with me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them. “Truly I tell you, I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives."
