A Prayer of Reflection on Betrayal and Courage
"And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked." - Mark 14:43-52
O Lord God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, we come before Thee with humble hearts, recognizing the gravity and depth of the events that transpired on that fateful night described in Mark 14:43-52. In this moment, we reflect upon the betrayal that Jesus faced, the kiss of deceit that signified the handing over of the Son of Man to those who sought to silence Him.

And as we reflect on the young man who fled naked, leaving behind a linen cloth, "And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him: and he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked" (Mark 14:51-52), help us also to shed all that weighs us down in our journey of faith. Teach us to let go of the superficial and clothe ourselves in Your righteousness alone.
Lord God, let this prayer be a remembrance of Your love in times of darkness. Help us to seek the light of Christ in our own lives and in how we interact with others. As we meditate on these verses, may we be driven to live lives of integrity, love, and faithfulness, ever mindful of the sacrifice made for us. We offer this prayer in Jesus’ name, amen.
