A Prayer for Purity of Heart

"And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." - Mark 7:20-23

"And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." - Mark 7:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

I come before You today, humbled by the depth of Your Word and the profound truth found in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Mark 7:20-23, You remind us that it is not merely the external things that defile a man but rather that which comes from within. "And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts..." Lord, I stand before You seeking purification of my heart, for I recognize that what defiles me is often rooted deep within my own soul.

Father, as I reflect on these verses, I am reminded that my heart is the source from which my actions flow. I seek Your forgiveness for the times I have allowed evil thoughts to infiltrate my mind and manifest in my words and deeds. Help me to understand that adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, and all manner of wickedness begin in the heart, and I desire, with all that I am, to cleanse my heart before You.

Lord, purge me of covetousness. In a world that celebrates accumulation and greed, I often find myself wishing for what others have rather than being grateful for the blessings You have bestowed upon me. Teach me to find contentment and joy in Your provision. Help me to lift my eyes to the things above where my treasure truly lies in You, rather than the fleeting desires of this world.

I ask that You remove the evil eye from my vision, Father; let me see others through Your eyes of grace. Deliver me from the spirit of blasphemy, that I might not speak ill of You or Your creation. Instead, fill my heart with a desire to honor and glorify You in all that I say and do.

Lord, I plead that You will bring to light any deceit within me. Too often have I wrapped myself in falsehoods to gain the approval of others or to escape accountability. Help me to embrace truth, even when it seems difficult or uncomfortable. Let my words and my actions align with Your truth, that I may stand firmly in the light, free from the chains of dishonesty.

Pride, foolishness, and wickedness have no place in me, O God. I confess that I have allowed the busyness of life and the distractions of this world to draw me away from a humble heart. Teach me the beauty of humility as I seek to be like Christ, who exemplified selflessness and unconditional love.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). May I reflect Your character and love in my interactions with others. I desire to be a vessel of Your peace, love, and kindness in a world that desperately needs it.

Holy Spirit, I invite You into my heart today, asking You to guard my thoughts and cleanse my innermost being. When evil thoughts arise, give me the strength to cast them out, replacing them with thoughts that are pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). Help me to recognize when I am tempted and to run towards You, seeking Your wisdom and guidance.

Lord, may my heart overflow with love instead of bitterness, and may my actions reflect the heart of a servant, just as Jesus modeled for us. Guide me in my daily walk, now and always, that I may bring glory to Your name and lead others to the knowledge of Your saving grace.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray,

Amen.
