A Prayer for Eternal Life and Divine Guidance
"¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" - Matthew 19:16

O Holy Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I come before Thy throne of grace with a humble heart, seeking Thy wisdom and guidance in my quest for eternal life. Just as the young man approached our Lord with earnestness and sincerity, asking, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" (Matthew 19:16 KJV), I too am filled with the desire to know Thy will for my life and the good works that lead to eternal salvation.
O Lord, grant me a clear understanding of what it means to seek the eternal riches of the kingdom over the fleeting pleasures of this earth. Enable me to cast aside my worldly concerns and distractions, and to focus my heart and mind on the treasures that are everlasting. Help me to recognize that eternal life is not merely a future promise but a present reality in my relationship with Thee.
As I ponder this significant question posed by the young ruler, guide me to reflect upon my own life, my deeds, and the state of my heart. Show me, O God, if there is any way in me that is not aligned with Your purpose. Reveal to me the areas where I may be seeking to earn salvation through my own merit rather than surrendering to Your grace.
In this moment of prayer, I wish to meditate on the attributes of the "Good Master" — Jesus, whose goodness surpasses all understanding. Father, instill in me a desire to embody that goodness in my daily life. Teach me to walk in the footsteps of Christ, to love unconditionally, to serve selflessly, and to forgive freely. Let my actions reflect the light of Christ, drawing others to You through the testimony of my life.
Lord, as I consider what good thing I can do, I am reminded of the call to love my neighbor as myself. Help me, O God, to actively seek ways to serve those around me. Deliver me from self-centeredness and empower me to engage in acts of kindness, compassion, and mercy. May I find joy in uplifting others, in being Your hands and feet in this world.
Grant me discernment to recognize opportunities for good deeds as I go about my daily routine. I pray that You would enable me to be aware of the needs of others, to respond with generosity, and to be a beacon of hope and change. Remind me that these acts of goodness not only glorify Your name but also draw me closer to the embodiment of eternal life I seek.
Heavenly Father, in my quest for eternal life, help me to remember that it is not simply the act of doing good that leads me there, but a heart that is wholly devoted to You. Teach me to cultivate a relationship with You that emphasizes prayer, scripture, worship, and fellowship. Fill my spirit with Your Holy Spirit that I might bear the fruits of the spirit — love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance — which are the true markers of a life anchored in eternal hope.
In closing, I submit my inquiry to You again, Lord. What good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? Lead me in the path of righteousness, guide my steps, and grant me the grace to persevere. I trust in Your promises and hope in Your faithfulness to lead me to the everlasting life promised through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
May I, through faith, embrace Your love and share it abundantly so that I may experience the fullness of life today and evermore. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
