Seeking Divine Authority and Wisdom
"And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things." - Matthew 21:24

Heavenly Father,
We come before you today with humble hearts, seeking the wisdom and understanding that only You can give. As we delve into the profound teachings of Your Son, Jesus Christ, we are reminded of the words found in Matthew 21:24, where Jesus states, "And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things."
O Lord, how beautifully Your Scriptures reveal the depth of Christ’s mission and the authority inherent in His words and actions. We acknowledge that every teaching, every miracle, and every act of love that Jesus performed was not merely out of His own will, but by the divine authority bestowed upon Him by You, O God. Lord, it is within this context that we seek Your guidance today.
Father, as we reflect on this verse, we recognize the importance of understanding the authority in our own lives. Teach us, Lord, what it means to operate under Your divine authority. Help us to discern the difference between worldly authority, which can lead to pride and division, and the heavenly authority that unifies and empowers us to fulfill the Great Commission. Let our hearts yearn to know the truth of Your word so that we can act according to Your will in all situations we face.
We confess, dear Lord, that we often question Your authority in our lives, much like the religious leaders questioned Jesus. In our moments of uncertainty and doubt, we struggle to submit our will to Yours. Forgive us, O Father, for the times we have questioned Your guiding hand. Help us to remember that true authority lies in our relationship with You, and that it is only through seeking You that we will find clarity and strength.
Grant us the courage to seek answers in our lives, just as Jesus sought answers from those around Him. When faced with challenges, may we not be ashamed to ask, “Lord, what do You desire from me?” Reveal to us the areas where we need Your insight and instruction. Open our hearts and minds to receive Your answers, which may come in unexpected ways.
We pray for the wisdom to follow the path You have laid before us. May we embody the spirit of inquiry that Christ portrayed, asking and seeking the truth without fear or hesitation. Let us not only rely on our understanding but recognize that Your ways are higher than our ways. Teach us, as followers of Christ, to be diligent in questioning our motives and actions, allowing Your Holy Spirit to guide us along the righteous path.
Empower us, O Lord, to be vessels of Your authority in our communities. As we share the Gospel, may we do so with the confidence that we speak with the authority given to us by Christ. May our lives be living testimonies of Your saving grace and transformative power. Let the elements of our character, our actions, and our words all reflect the authority of Jesus.
Finally, we ask for fortitude in the face of opposition, as we emulate the courage displayed by Your Son. When our authority is questioned, may we remain steadfast, ready to provide a defense for our faith with love and grace, just as Jesus did. Let our confidence rest solely in Your truth, knowing that it is You who establish our authority in the world.
In all things, we give thanks for Jesus, our Lord and Savior, who demonstrates what it means to ask and seek knowledge, and who provides the perfect example of living under divine authority. May we continually turn to Him for guidance, understanding, and strength.
In Your holy name, we pray,
Amen.
