A Prayer for Eternal Perspective
"¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:" - Matthew 6:19

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You in humble reverence, I am reminded of the words of our Lord Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 6:19: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.” Lord, help me to absorb the profound truth contained in this verse, for in it lies the essence of true wisdom and understanding.
Father, I thank You for the life You have given me and the many blessings that You have poured out upon me. Yet, in a world that constantly encourages the accumulation of material wealth and possessions, I pray for your guidance to shift my focus from the temporal to the eternal. Remind me daily that the treasures of this earth are fleeting, susceptible to decay and loss, and that they can never truly satisfy the deepest longings of my soul.
Lord, I confess that there have been times when I have allowed the pursuit of earthly treasures to overshadow my relationship with You. I have sought validation in what I own rather than in who I am in You. Help me, dear Lord, to cast aside the desire for materialistic gains, the need for approval that comes through possessions, and the fear of inadequacy brought by comparing myself to others. Teach me to find my identity in You alone, to understand that I am created in Your image, loved unconditionally, and called to a higher purpose.
As I meditate on Jesus’ words, I ask for the strength to store up treasures in heaven. Help me to invest in things that have eternal value—acts of kindness, generosity, love, and service to others. Open my eyes to see the needs around me and inspire me to respond with a heart that desires to help and uplift those who are struggling. Let my life be a reflection of Your love, and may my actions lead others to You.
Lord, I recognize the temptations that come when I focus on acquiring worldly possessions. The lure of materialism is powerful and often distracting. I pray for the discernment to see through these illusions, to understand that true joy and fulfillment cannot be found in earthly goods. Help me to prioritize my time, efforts, and love towards seeking You and Your kingdom first, as You have promised that all these things will be added unto me (Matthew 6:33).
Heavenly Father, I pray for the peace that surpasses all understanding to guard my heart against anxiety over finances, security, or what tomorrow may hold. May I trust in Your sovereign plan for my life, knowing that You provide for all my needs according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Remind me that the most valuable treasures are not those that can be seen, but those that resonate with hope, faith, and love within my spirit.
Lastly, Lord, as I navigate this life, grant me a perspective that is eternally minded. Help me to cultivate a heart that yearns for heavenly riches, those that bring me closer to You and await me in Your glorious presence. Let my life be an investment in the eternal—strengthened through prayer, enriched by Your Word, and surrounded by community that seeks to glorify You.
Thank you, Lord, for the promise of treasures that last forever in heaven. I am grateful for Your guidance, love, and grace. I ask all this in the precious name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
