A Prayer of Faith and Request for Mercy
"And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us." - Matthew 9:27

O Holy and Sovereign Lord, who reigns above all heavens and whose glory is displayed in all creation, we come before You in humility and awe, recalling the words of Scripture which tell us about Your great compassion and mercy. In Matthew 9:27, we read, "And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us."
Lord, just as those two blind men demonstrated their faith by following despite their blindness, we gather before You today, not with physical sight, but with hearts crying out for Your intervention in our lives. We thank You for the example they show us—a relentless pursuit in the face of adversity, trusting that by calling upon Your name, they would receive mercy. We echo their plea for mercy, recognizing our own limitations, our own struggles, and our own need for divine help.
Oh, merciful Jesus, Son of David, we stand in desperate need of Your grace. In our moments of weakness, when life’s burdens feel too heavy to carry, we cry out to You. We acknowledge our blindness to the truths of life, to the paths that lie ahead, and we ask that You would open our eyes. Help us to see with clarity, Lord, for the way can often be obscured by fears, doubts, and the chaos of this world.
In our blindness, we ask that You help us to see Your love and goodness that continually surround us. We seek Your face, longing to recognize the many ways You are working in our lives. As those blind men sought You earnestly, may our hearts be ignited with a zeal to pursue You wholeheartedly, trusting that Your mercy has the power to transform our bleak situations into testimonies of hope and healing.
Father, we confess that sometimes we allow the noise and distractions of the world to drown out our cries for help. Forgive us for our moments of waning faith—when we cease to believe in Your divine ability to heal and restore. Sweep away our doubts and grant us a renewed spirit of courage. Help us, Lord, to have the same unwavering faith as those men who did not let the crowd deter them, but instead pressed on towards You, calling out in earnest desperation.
In this moment, Lord, I lift up those who are also spiritually blind, those trapped in sin, sorrow, fear, or hopelessness. May they hear Your call and recognize Your voice beckoning them near. We pray that the eyes of their hearts would be opened and that they, too, would cry out to You: "Son of David, have mercy on us!" Reveal Yourself to them as a comforter, healer, and guide. Show them that Your mercy is abundant and freely given to all who seek it.
Lord, as we reflect on the amazing power of Your mercy, let us be reminded of Your ultimate sacrifice for our sins. You took upon Yourself the weight of the world to restore our sight and cleanse our hearts. In that beautiful act, You made it possible for us—blind though we may be—to have access to the throne of grace. We thank You for this gift and implore You to grant us sight to see the world through Your loving perspective.
As we conclude this prayer, Lord, we commit ourselves to walking in faith, trusting that You are always with us. May our lives be a reflection of the mercy we have received. Help us extend that mercy to others who are lost in their blindness, so they may find their way to You.
In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
