A Prayer for Justice and Righteousness in Our Land
"¶ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up." - Micah 7:3

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am awash in the truths of Your holy Word, especially as I meditate on Micah 7:3, which says, "That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asketh, and the judge asketh for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up."
Lord, this verse speaks a weighty truth about the condition of humanity and the perils of corruption that often infiltrate the hearts of those who hold positions of power and influence. I confess that my heart aches for the brokenness I see around me, where justice is trampled upon, and the voices of the innocent go unheard. I lift my eyes to You, the ultimate source of justice and righteousness, asking You to guide us and create a change within us.
Father, we live in a world where leaders, whether they hold official titles or wield influence through wealth and status, often pursue self-serving agendas. Their appetite for power blinds them to the suffering that surrounds them. Forgive us, O Lord, for the times when we have turned a blind eye, when we have allowed injustice to prevail. Help us to be a voice for the voiceless, to stand up for those who are trampled upon by those who are supposed to protect their rights.
In the face of such rampant evil, I ask for Your strength and courage, that I may not just be a bystander but an active agent of change. May I seek to uphold justice, even when it's uncomfortable, even when the world advises against it. Help me to recognize the areas in my own life where I might, consciously or unconsciously, turn toward self-interest rather than the good of others.
Lord, I pray specifically for those in leadership positions, whether in government, judiciary, or any sphere that affects society. Remove the blinders from their eyes, and open their hearts to the cries of the oppressed. Allow them to see the weight of their decisions on the lives of those they are meant to serve. May they not seek rewards for their judgments but rather pursue wisdom and integrity in their roles.
I implore You to expose the hidden motives that lead to corruption. Just as Your Word states, "the great man, he uttereth his mischievous desire: so they wrap it up," I pray that deceit and mischief will be laid bare. Let the lies that govern actions be revealed, and let truth and transparency prevail. May Your truth shine like a beacon, guiding us towards a society rooted in fairness and justice.
Father, instill in our hearts a desire for righteousness. Inspire us to hold ourselves and our leaders accountable. May we not be complacent, nor accept evil as normal. Teach us how to love justice and hate evil, as we strive to reflect Your character in our interactions with one another. Grant us patience and perseverance, as well, as many among us work tirelessly for change.
As we pray for justice, let us remember that true restoration and healing begins with repentance. I ask that we turn back to You, O Lord, as a nation, as a people. Help us rebuild a foundation based on faith and integrity. Teach us, Lord, to value honesty in every sphere of our lives and to lift our leaders to You in prayer, petitioning for their salvation and transformation.
In closing, may Your will, O Lord, reign over our hearts, and may Your truth permeate our society like water through dry ground. We long for a day when justice will roll down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream. Until that day, give us courage to fight for good amid the darkness. We seek Your guidance and trust in Your promises for restoration and glory.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
