A Prayer of Commitment: Offering Our Firstfruits to God
"We also assume responsibility for bringing to the house of the LORD each year the firstfruits of our crops and of every fruit tree; As it is also written in the law, and the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written in the law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God, unto the priests that minister in the house of our God: And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage." - Nehemiah 10:35-37

O Sovereign Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth, we come before Your holy throne with hearts full of gratitude and reverence today. We stand in awe of Your greatness, Your unwavering faithfulness, and the boundless love that You bestow upon us daily. As it is written in Nehemiah 10:35-37, we recognize our duty and privilege to bring the firstfruits of our crops and every fruitful tree into Your house, which is a testament to our commitment to remember You in all things.
Heavenly Father, we commit ourselves to the principle of firstfruits, acknowledging that You are the source of every good thing in our lives. Lord, help us to grasp the significance of offering the first and the best unto You. Just as the Israelites vowed to present their firstfruits to the house of the Lord, we also resolve to set aside that which represents the best of our labor. May we not only bring our physical offerings but also dedicate our hearts, our time, and our talents to You, recognizing that they are all gifts from Your gracious hand.
Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have put our desires before Your commandments. When faced with the choices of life, we often forget to honor You first with our resources. Instill in us a spirit of generosity that reflects Your own generosity towards us. We pray that our offerings to Your house would be a faithful response to Your divine provision, a declaration that we trust in Your goodness and Your plan.
As Your children, we acknowledge the importance of the firstborn, a sacred gift, set apart for You. Just as the law requires us to offer the firstborn of our sons and livestock to You, we dedicate our families and ourselves into Your hands, asking for Your protection and guidance. O Lord, may our children grow to know You, to walk in Your ways, and may they recognize the importance of honoring You with their lives from a young age. We place our households before You, inviting Your presence to reign among us.
We also consider the firstfruits of our dough, our offerings, the produce of our trees, the juices of the grape, and the oil from the olive. These are not just physical commodities; they symbolize our dedication to You. May every loaf of bread we knead, every tree we tend, and every harvest we gather be offered in acknowledgment of Your hand at work beneath our efforts.
Help us, Lord, to remember the Levites and priests who minister in the house of our God, those who dedicate their lives to Your service. May we be diligent in supporting them, not just out of obligation but out of love for You and for Your mission. Show us how to participate in the work of the ministry, recognizing it is not only the duty of the few but the calling of us all as the body of Christ.
We pray for the leaders in our communities who carry the burden of leadership as they perform their sacred duties. Strengthen them and provide them with the resources they need to continue the work of Your Kingdom. Let our tithes and offerings be multiplied as they reach those in need, transforming lives by sharing the love and provisions that You have bestowed upon us.
In all these requests, Lord, may we do so with willing hearts. May our offerings reflect our love, devotion, and appreciation for all You've done. Teach us to put You first in our lives—our finances, our time, our priorities. Let us be a people who bring the firstfruits and tithe joyfully, fulfilling our responsibilities willingly, just as Nehemiah called his people to do.
In Jesus’ precious name, we pray, Amen.

Nehemiah 10:35-37 - "We also assume responsibility for bringing to the house of the LORD each year the firstfruits of our crops and of every fruit tree. As it is also written in the Law, we will bring the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, of our herds and of our flocks to the house of our God, to the priests ministering there. Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and olive oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work."
