We thank You, Lord, for the wisdom that transcends time, teaching us not merely to observe the world around us but to become fully aware of Your presence and the lessons therein.

As we meditate on the question posed by the ass, “Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day?” we recognize our own relationship with You, Lord. How often do we overlook the blessings in our lives, the faithful companions You have placed on our paths? Just as Balaam failed to see the significance of his ass's loyalty and service, we too sometimes neglect to appreciate the steadfast love and support You provide through the people and circumstances around us.

Lord, open our eyes to the reality of Your constant companionship. Help us to understand that we are not alone on this journey of life. We ask for the grace to recognize those who, like the ass, have borne our burdens and traveled alongside us, enduring patiently through our trials and our moments of doubt.

May we not be blinded by our ambitions or distracted by our desires, as Balaam was. When our focus shifts away from You, allow us to discern the warning signs, to acknowledge the loving nudges from those around us who speak truth into our lives. Forgive us for the moments when we have dismissed the guidance and support that You have sent our way, whether through friends, family, or even strangers who carry Your light.

We pray, Lord, for the humility to listen and learn rather than to become stubborn in our ways. Just as Balaam responded with a simple “Nay,” may our hearts be open to turning from disregard towards understanding. Let us never forget that affection and counsel can come in various forms, sometimes unexpected, yet always intended for our growth and faith.
