A Prayer for Wisdom and Knowledge
"Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction." - Proverbs 10:14

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the profound truth found in Proverbs 10:14: "Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction." Lord, I seek Your guidance as I navigate through the complexities of this world. I desire to be among the wise, to accumulate knowledge and understanding, so that my life may reflect Your glory and bear fruit for Your kingdom.
Father, I recognize that wisdom is not just the accumulation of facts, but a deep and abiding understanding that comes from walking in Your ways and seeking Your heart. I long to be like the wise men who lay up knowledge, storing it in my heart and mind, so that I may draw upon it in times of need. Help me to understand that true wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord, as Your Word states in Proverbs 1:7. Teach me to revere You, to acknowledge Your sovereignty in every matter, and to seek Your face in all my decisions.
Lord, I ask for the spirit of wisdom and understanding to be poured out upon me. May I reflect on Your Word each day, cherishing it as a treasure that guides my thoughts, words, and actions. Help me to meditate on Your teachings, so that I may internalize the principles of wisdom and apply them in my daily life. Open my eyes to see the importance of knowledge – not just for my benefit, but so that I might share it with others, leading them towards Your truth and light.
I pray for discernment in my interactions with others. Let me be slow to speak and quick to listen, as instructed in James 1:19. Help me to recognize that the mouth of the foolish leads to destruction, not only for themselves but also for those around them. Save me from engaging in idle chatter or speaking words that tear down rather than build up. Grant me the wisdom to use my words carefully and to speak only that which is pure, helpful, and directed towards Your glory.
Father, I also lift up those in my life who may be seeking knowledge but lack wisdom. I pray that You would surround them with wise counsel and open their hearts to receive Your truths. May they recognize the importance of laying up knowledge and not fall prey to the foolishness that leads to destruction. Help them to discern the voices they listen to and the teachings they embrace. Let them find guidance in Your Word and community in the body of Christ.
Lord, guard our hearts and minds from the snares of the enemy, who seeks to distract us with false knowledge and worldly wisdom. Help us to recognize that the wisdom of man is often foolishness to You. Let us rely on Your wisdom alone, remembering the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who is our ultimate source of hope and knowledge.
As we pursue wisdom, let us also be instruments of Your peace in a world that often chooses the path of folly. Enable us to speak words of life, to encourage those around us, and to share the good news of Jesus Christ with clarity and conviction. May our lives be a testament to the wisdom that only comes from You.
Thank You, Lord, for imparting Your wisdom to those who seek it earnestly. I trust in Your promises, knowing that when I ask for wisdom in faith, You will gladly give it to me (James 1:5). May I be forever changed by the knowledge I lay up, leading to a life fully surrendered to You. I surrender my tongue and my thoughts to You, committing to be a vessel of Your truth.
In the precious name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
