A Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance in Counsel

"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." - Proverbs 11:14

"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." - Proverbs 11:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today, acknowledging our need for Your wisdom and guidance in all aspects of our lives. In the book of Proverbs, You have reminded us that “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety” (Proverbs 11:14, KJV). Lord, we recognize that we are not meant to walk this life alone, and we humbly seek the counsel of Your Spirit and the wisdom of those You place in our paths.

Father, as we navigate through the complexities of life, be it in our personal decisions, our families, our workplaces, or in our communities, help us to understand the importance of seeking counsel. We often think we can manage on our own; we can get lost in our own understanding. Forgive us for those times when we have neglected to seek advice, when we have turned from the community that You have placed around us. You have given us brothers and sisters to walk alongside us, to sharpen us, and to challenge us. May we always be willing to listen and learn from others, and never let pride blind us to the wisdom that can come from diverse perspectives.

Lord, we pray for discernment in choosing our counselors. Not everyone who gives advice does so with pure intentions or sound judgment. Help us to surround ourselves with wise and godly individuals who seek to honor You in their lives and decisions. May we have ears to hear and hearts open to the truths they share, understanding that Your voice is often communicated through the wise counsel of others. Lead us to those who will point us toward You, who will encourage us to seek Your will above all else and to challenge us when we stray from the path of righteousness.

We ask for the ability to differentiate between good counsel and bad counsel. Enable us to discern the motives of those we look to for advice, and grant us the wisdom to reject any guidance that does not align with Your Word. We need Your strength, dear God, to be wise in our choice of advisors, ensuring that we select those who uplift, inspire, and equip us to fulfill the calling You have placed upon our lives.

Heavenly Father, as we gather with others for counsel, instill in us a spirit of humility and openness. Give us the courage to be vulnerable, to express our struggles, and to share our burdens with those we trust. May we always approach the counsel of others not with defensiveness but with a willingness to hear and consider their insights. Help us to recognize that You often bring answers to our prayers through the suggestions and encouragement of others.

Moreover, we pray that You would guard our hearts against discouragement when we receive advice that challenges our current path. When it stings a little, help us to process it through prayer and asking for Your revelation. Teach us how to trust in Your timing and Your plan even when human counsel might feel daunting. Remind us, Lord, that safety comes from You and that the counsel given to us is often for our good.

Lastly, we lift up those who counsel others, asking that You would also empower and guide them. Fill them with Your wisdom, grace, and understanding. Help them to approach each conversation with love and care, relying on You to lead them in what to say and when to say it.

In all things, may we seek You first and foremost. May we depend on Your counsel above all, trusting that in our multitude of counselors, it is Your Spirit who ultimately guides us in righteousness.

In Jesus' name, we pray,

Amen.
