A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment
"A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident." - Proverbs 14:16

Heavenly Father,
In humble adoration, I come before Your throne today with a heart yearning for wisdom, as Your Word reminds us in Proverbs 14:16: "A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident." Lord, as I reflect on this profound truth, I recognize the necessity of fearing You—an awe that transforms my understanding and alerts me to the dangers of sin.
Father, I ask that You bestow upon me a genuine reverence for You that leads me to make choices aligned with Your will. Let my fear be one of respect and honor, not of trembling anxiety. Help me to see evil as You see it, as something to be shunned and forsaken, not casually entertained. Fill my heart with a desire to depart from all forms of wickedness, and empower me to choose the paths that lead to righteousness. May I find joy and peace in dwelling in the shelter of Your presence, where evil cannot touch me.
Lord, I lift up my eyes to You, acknowledging my frailty. I am aware that in moments of weakness or distraction, I may foolishly consider the temporary pleasures that sin offers. The world, with its enticing allure, is quick to provide a false sense of confidence, much like the fool who "rageth" in their arrogance. Yet, I desire to be wise in Your sight. Help me to discern promptly when temptation strikes, guiding me to see it for what it truly is—a path of destruction concealed in fleeting pleasures.
I pray for a heart that is not easily swayed by the foolishness around me. May my spirit be anchored in Your wisdom, standing firm against the tides of unwise decisions that so often plague our world. Surround me with Your protection, and grant me the clarity to see through the haze of cultural norms that often value confidence over humility. Help me confidently stand apart, not in arrogance, but in humility that recognizes my dependence on You.
Lord, as I navigate relationships with others, grant me wisdom to identify those who persist in folly. Help me to love them genuinely while also being strong enough to depart from their evil ways. Teach me to engage with others in a manner that demonstrates Your love and truth, while being cautious not to let their misguided confidence rub off on me. May I draw strength from my connection with wise companions who encourage me to seek righteousness rather than folly, sharpen my discernment, and elevate my spirit in Your ways.
I also pray for our leaders and influencers in this world. It is in their hands that many feel the weight of sin's ripple effects. Let them seek wisdom and fear You, O Lord. May they recognize the importance of departing from evil, rather than being enticed by the folly that so easily ensnares many. Grant them a spirit of humility and a heart willing to listen to counsel filled with Your wisdom.
As I continue on this walk of faith, help me constantly reflect on my choices and their consequences. May I daily choose the path of wisdom, remembering that true confidence rests not in self but in my relationship with You. Strengthen my resolve to flee from evil, knowing that understanding and peace surround the wise, while chaos abounds in the hearts of fools.
Thank you, Lord, for Your everlasting truth that holds the power to transform lives. I ask for You to lead me with Your wisdom and light my path with Your truth. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
