When My Plans Are Many, Let Your Counsel Stand

Holy and Sovereign LORD,

I come before You in reverence and humility, acknowledging that You alone are God, perfect in wisdom, pure in purpose, and faithful in every promise. You see the end from the beginning. You weigh the motives of my heart. You know my thoughts before they are fully formed, and You understand the paths I am tempted to take even before I choose them. Today I bring my life under the light of Your Word, and I cling to the truth of Proverbs 19:21: “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.”

Father, I confess that my heart often fills with many devices—many plans, many schemes, many preferences, many fears, many assumptions. I can be quick to map out what I think is best, slow to inquire of You, and even slower to surrender what I have already decided. I admit that I sometimes dress my own will in spiritual language, hoping You will bless what I have chosen rather than asking You to choose for me. Forgive me, LORD, for every time I have trusted my own understanding more than Your counsel, for every time I have pursued my own way without waiting for Your direction, and for every time I have resisted Your correction when it did not match my expectations.

Yet Your Word speaks with steady authority: “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.” Let that “nevertheless” be written across my thoughts and desires. Let it interrupt my hurry. Let it humble my confidence. Let it quiet the noise of competing voices, so that what remains is Your counsel—sure, unshaken, and true. LORD, when my plans multiply, when my imagination runs ahead, when my anxieties produce endless contingencies, teach me to pause and remember: Your counsel shall stand.

I ask You now to search me and reveal the devices in my heart that are not born of faith. Show me where pride has been steering, where fear has been deciding, where bitterness has been shaping my expectations, where insecurity has driven me to control outcomes that are not mine to control. Expose every hidden agenda, every self-protective strategy, and every desire that competes with simple obedience. Replace my restlessness with reverence. Replace my striving with trust. Replace my insistence with surrender.

LORD, I also ask You to grant me discernment to recognize Your counsel. Teach me to love truth more than comfort and obedience more than applause. Give me ears that are quick to hear and a heart that is willing to be corrected. If Your counsel leads me into waiting, give me patience. If Your counsel leads me into action, give me courage. If Your counsel calls me to let go of something I have held tightly, give me faith to release it. If Your counsel requires me to admit wrong, give me humility to repent. If Your counsel directs me to forgive, give me grace to forgive fully.

I pray over every decision before me—spoken and unspoken, known and unknown. For my work, my family, my relationships, my finances, my health, my future, my ministry, and my private life—LORD, let Your counsel stand. Where my plans are wise, establish them according to Your will. Where my plans are misguided, dismantle them in mercy. Where my plans are selfish, uproot them. Where my plans are incomplete, refine them. Where my plans are good but not Your best, redirect me without delay. I would rather have Your counsel with loss than my devices with gain.

Guard me from the temptation to measure Your will by immediate results. Teach me to trust that what stands is what You have spoken and what You have purposed. When circumstances change, when doors close, when paths narrow, keep me from panic and complaining. Remind me again of Proverbs 19:21: “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.” Let that promise steady me in uncertainty and anchor me in peace.

LORD, align my heart with Your heart. Let my desires be shaped by Your Word. Let my thoughts be captured by truth. Let my steps be ordered by Your wisdom. Let my life testify that Your counsel stands—above my feelings, above my fears, above the opinions of others, above the pressures of the moment, and above every device my heart might produce.

I surrender my plans to You today. I surrender my timeline to You. I surrender my need to understand every detail. I ask for the quiet strength to obey what You reveal, one step at a time. And when I look back, let me be able to say that Your counsel stood in my life—steady, faithful, and good.
