A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment in Temptation
"¶ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:" - Proverbs 5:3

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the wisdom that Your Word imparts, especially the teachings found in the book of Proverbs. In Proverbs 5:3, it is written, “For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil.” Lord, these words echo the temptations that surround us in our daily lives.
I stand before You, acknowledging my human frailty, the allure of temptation, and the deceptive sweetness that can lead me astray. Father, I ask for Your guidance and wisdom, for my heart is vulnerable and my mind can easily become clouded by the enticements of this world. Help me to recognize that not all sweetness is good, and not all smooth words speak truth.
In this world filled with seductive whispers, I seek to ground myself in Your truth. Teach me, Lord, to discern between what is right and what is pleasing to the eye yet detrimental to my soul. The strange woman, as described in the verse, represents the seductive pull of sin, which can appear attractive but is ultimately destructive. Protect my heart, dear Lord, from falling prey to such temptations that appear sweet at first but lead to bitterness and pain.
I pray for the strength to resist the allure of those who speak smoothly, luring me away from Your path. Help me to be cautious of my surroundings and to guard my heart with diligence, knowing that a heart led astray is a heart that becomes lost. Remind me that true wisdom does not come from human understanding but from fearing You, the beginning of all wisdom.
Help me, Lord, to follow the path of righteousness, seeking Your wisdom in every decision I make. I ask that You fill me with a spirit of discernment so that I can distinguish between mere words that flatter, and the words that edify and align with Your purpose for my life. May I always hold fast to what is good, and shun the very appearance of evil, recognizing that even the sweetest of temptations can lead to destruction.
Give me the courage to stand firm in my convictions, to speak truth into my life and the lives of others around me, and to reject any influence that leads me away from You. I pray that my lips may also reflect Your love, sharing sweetness and joy, but with integrity and honor. Let my words be uplifting, and may they bring life to others, rather than leading them into darkness.
As I navigate through this life, I pray for Your protection over my mind and heart. Surround me with Your angels to guard against the influences that seek to draw me away from Your love. Let Your Spirit dwell within me, guiding my thoughts and actions.
Help me to cultivate a heart that delights in Your Word, so that I may draw strength and wisdom from it when temptations arise. May I fill my mind with Your promises and truth, so that I remember Your love and guidance in every circumstance.
Lastly, I am grateful for Your grace and mercy, reminding me that even when I stumble, there is always a path back to You through repentance and faith. Thank you for the assurance that Your love is greater than any temptation I may face.
In Your holy name, I pray,
Amen.
