A Prayer for Wisdom and Discernment Against Temptation
"For the lips of a forbidden woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: but her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell." - Proverbs 5:3-5

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength to navigate the many temptations that surround me in this life. I am reminded by the wisdom found in Proverbs 5:3-5 (KJV), which says, "For the lips of a forbidden woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: but her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell."
Lord, these words echo the reality of the seduction that can ensnare the hearts and minds of those who are unguarded. I recognize that temptation often comes disguised as sweetness and allure, its appealing surface masking the bitter and destructive consequences that lie beneath. Father, help me to perceive the truth behind the enticements that seek to lead me astray.
Grant me the discernment to spot when something seems too good to be true, for I know that the enemy prowls like a lion, looking for opportunities to devour those unaware. Teach me, O God, to be vigilant and wise, watching over my heart, my thoughts, and my actions. Help me not to be easily swayed by the smooth words and seductive charms of those who do not have my best interest at heart.
I pray for the strength to resist the pull of a forbidden relationship or harmful temptation. Your Scriptures remind me of the dangers that come when I stray from the path of righteousness. I know that such paths lead only to destruction – that they might promise excitement and pleasure but ultimately bring forth sorrow, regret, and a darkness far too deep to fathom. Lord, I ask that You strengthen my resolve to say no to temptation; grant me a spirit that is steadfast and unwavering.
Father, I understand that it is not always easy to discern the sweet whispers of seduction that promise fulfillment, but lead me by Your spirit. Let Your Word be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105). May Your truth serve as a shield around me, fortifying my spirit against every scheme the enemy may devise. I pray that I will lean more on Your understanding than my own (Proverbs 3:5-6) and trust that Your ways are higher than my ways and that Your plans for me are ultimately for good (Jeremiah 29:11).
I also pray for those who may be caught within the grips of temptation or are making unwise choices that may lead to destruction. Help me to extend love and grace towards them, even as I seek to protect my heart and walk steadfastly in Your truth. Show me how to be a beacon of Your light, guiding others towards the path of life instead of following the enticing whispers of death.
Lord, let my heart be filled with a deep love for Your ways and a burning desire to seek You above all else. Fill me with Your wisdom that I might recognize the fleeting nature of earthly pleasures and instead cling to the enduring joy found in Your presence. Help me to find strength in Your Word and the comfort of Your presence when I feel weary in my journey.
In the name of Jesus, I pray that I will always choose life, love, and partnership with You over the fleeting allure of forbidden temptations, ensuring that my steps are firmly planted on the gracious and fulfilling path You have set before me.
Amen.
