A Prayer for Generosity and Wise Stewardship
"A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion." - Psalms 112:5

Heavenly Father,
As I come before Your throne today, I am filled with awe at Your goodness and grace. Your Word reminds us in Psalms 112:5, ‘A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.’ Lord, I seek to embody this scripture in my own life, for I know that to be deemed a ‘good man’ is not solely defined by my personal righteousness but by how I interact with those around me.
Father, I ask for a heart that truly shows favor to others. Teach me to see beyond my own needs and desires and to recognize the struggles of those around me. Help me to be attentive to the whispers of need I might encounter—whether in my community, workplace, or among friends and family. Let my eyes be open to opportunities to extend kindness and support. You have blessed me abundantly; may I be a channel of Your blessings, sharing love and resources generously.
Lord, I pray that You will instill in me the spirit of lending—not just materially, but in ways that uplift and encourage. Let my words be a source of strength to those who are weary and my actions a light to those who walk in darkness. When I lend my hands, may they be used to build up rather than to tear down. Teach me to invest in the lives of others, fostering relationships rooted in grace and trust.
Help me, Father, to understand the responsibility that comes with generosity. May I guide my affairs with the discretion that Your Word calls for. Give me wisdom in all my dealings, ensuring that I approach each situation with careful consideration and prayer. Let me not be hasty in my decisions, but rather, let me consult Your word and seek counsel from those You place in my life. I desire to be a steward of the resources entrusted to me, whether they be time, talents, or treasures.
O Lord, it is often tempting to act out of impulse, to lend with the hopes of receiving something back in return or to give simply to fulfill an obligation. Forgive me for the times I have acted selfishly or without foresight. Teach me instead to act out of pure love and intent, recognizing that true generosity does not seek reward or acknowledgment but is motivated purely by compassion and empathy. Help me to embrace the idea of giving freely as You have given to me.
I also pray for wisdom in assessing when and how to lend. Let me never turn a blind eye to those in genuine need, yet also grant me discernment to avoid enabling unhealthy patterns that might hinder growth and responsibility in others. As I lend, may I foster independence and self-sufficiency, guiding those in need toward the paths of responsibility and maturity.
Lord, I know that following this path is not always easy. There will be challenges and sacrifices, yet I trust that You are with me. Equip me, and encourage my spirit with Your presence. May my life be a testament to the power of generosity and wise stewardship—reflecting Your love in every act of kindness I extend.
In closing, I commit my heart to You, asking that You mold me into a vessel of favor and wisdom. May my actions illuminate the way for others and inspire them to act with the same grace that You have shown to me. Help me to live out Psalm 112:5 faithfully, guiding my affairs with discretion and shedding favor through my generosity. Thank you for hearing my prayer, and for the miraculous ways You work in and through my life.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
