Preserved in All My Ways: A Prayer from Psalm 121:7–8 (KJV)

"The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." - Psalms 121:7-8

"The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore." - Psalms 121:{verse.verse_number}

O LORD, my Keeper and my Shield, I come before Thee with reverence and trust, resting my heart upon Thy sure Word. Thou hast spoken, and Thy promises are steadfast and cannot fail. I set my faith upon the truth of Scripture, and I confess with gratitude what Thou hast declared: “The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.” And again, I lay hold of this covenant of care: “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”

Lord, I praise Thee because Thy preservation is not uncertain, not partial, and not weak. It is the preserving of the Almighty—faithful, watchful, and full of power. When fears rise within me, when dangers surround me, when the path ahead is unknown, teach my soul to rest in Thee. Let me not be ruled by anxious thoughts or troubled imaginations, but by Thy living promise. Thou art the One who sees what I cannot see, who knows what I do not know, and who guards me in ways beyond my understanding.

Father, according to Thy Word, “The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil.” I ask Thee to preserve me from the evil that seeks to enter my mind through worry, bitterness, envy, pride, and despair. Preserve me from the evil of careless speech, from the harm of rash decisions, from the hidden snares that lure my feet away from obedience. Preserve me from the evil that would harden my heart toward forgiveness or weaken my resolve to walk uprightly. Keep me from temptations that appear small yet lead to sorrow. Deliver me from every evil work and set a watch over my life.

Yet, Lord, I thank Thee that Thy promise reaches deeper still: “he shall preserve thy soul.” Therefore I pray, preserve my inner man. Keep my soul anchored in Thy truth when circumstances shake me. Preserve my faith when I am weary. Preserve my hope when I am waiting. Preserve my love when I am misunderstood. Let not my soul be stolen by distractions, corrupted by the world’s vanity, or crushed by trials. Wash me anew in Thy mercy; strengthen me by Thy Spirit; and make my heart steadfast, that I may delight in Thy ways.

O LORD, Thou hast also promised, “The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in.” I bring before Thee the ordinary steps of my daily life—the places I must go, the tasks I must do, the conversations I must have, and the responsibilities I must carry. Preserve my going out: as I leave my home, as I travel, as I labor, as I serve, as I face the demands of the day. Preserve my coming in: as I return, as I rest, as I reflect, as I gather again with those entrusted to my care. Let my comings and goings be ordered by Thy wisdom. Guard me from accidents, from violence, from unforeseen trouble, and from the schemes of the adversary. Place Thy hedge about my life, not for my glory, but that I may continue to honor Thee.

Lord, I ask for spiritual discernment to recognize evil and flee it. Give me courage to say no to what displeases Thee, and humility to confess quickly when I have sinned. Train my hands for righteous work and my heart for faithful worship. May my life testify that Thou art a preserving God—near to the brokenhearted, mighty to save, and faithful to finish what Thou hast begun.

And because Thy Word declares that this preservation is “from this time forth, and even for evermore,” I place not only today but my entire future into Thy hands. Preserve me in seasons of plenty, lest I forget Thee. Preserve me in seasons of lack, lest I doubt Thy goodness. Preserve me in youth and in age, in strength and in weakness, in joy and in sorrow. Keep me, LORD, all my days, until the end of my journey and beyond it.

I submit myself to Thee, trusting Thy promise and Thy character. Thou art my Keeper; Thou art my Preserver; Thou art my everlasting God. Let my life be lived in confidence, not because I am strong, but because Thy Word is true: “The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” Amen.
