A Prayer for Deliverance from the Wicked
"Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah." - Psalms 140:8

O Sovereign Lord, Creator of all that is seen and unseen,
In humble reverence, I come before You, acknowledging Your sovereignty and your unmatched power. As I reflect on Your Word, particularly Psalm 140:8, I find myself compelled to offer this prayer: “Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.”
Lord, Your understanding of our hearts and minds far surpasses our own. You see the intentions hidden deep within, the plans devised in darkness. With a heavy heart, I bring to You the reality of wickedness that pervades our world and at times infiltrates our lives.
Heavenly Father, in a world that often seems consumed by greed, malice, and betrayal, we humbly ask that You do not grant the desires of the wicked. You know their schemes, their plots to manipulate, deceive, and exploit others for their own gain. We see their actions causing harm and sowing discord among communities, and our spirits often feel overwhelmed by the weight of their transgressions. But we trust in Your justice, knowing that Your judgment is perfect and true.
We call upon You, O Lord, to thwart every wicked scheme devised against the innocent. Let not their ambitions come to fruition. No matter how cunning they may be, fortify the hearts of Your people and protect those who walk in integrity. May Your divine intervention come swiftly to expose their treachery and to bring an end to their plans.
I proclaim Your promise of protection over every life that is threatened by the wickedness that seeks to engulf us. Help us to remember that You are our refuge in times of trouble. As we navigate through life’s treacherous currents, remind us that we can find solace under Your mighty wings.
Moreover, Lord, I beseech You to further not the devices of the wicked. As they plot and scheme, I pray that You render their plans futile. Let their intentions be met with failure at every turn. Your Word assures us in Proverbs 21:30 that “There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.” We hold onto that truth today.
Grant us discernment in the face of opposition, Lord. Help us to stay steadfast and grounded in Your Word, equipping us to recognize the snares laid before us. Enlighten our paths so that we may see through the falsehoods surrounding us, that we may not fall prey to their wicked designs.
We seek Your strength, O God, to resist any temptation to engage with the wicked or to rebel against Your commands. Let not our hearts be drawn into the darkness, but rather fill us with Your light. May our actions honor You and reflect Your goodness, even in the face of adversity. May our resolve be unshakable, bringing glory to Your name amidst the turmoil.
And Heavenly Father, we also pray for those who have strayed down the path of wickedness. May they encounter Your grace and mercy, finding repentance in their hearts. Restore them, O Lord, from the clutches of evil and lead them back to the righteous path. For in their repentance lies an opportunity for healing and restoration, and we know that with You, all things are possible.
In closing, we declare that we trust not in our own understanding but in Your wisdom, O God. As we wait for Your righteous judgment, we will remain vigilant and prayerful. May Your protection encircle us and may Your will be done in our lives and in the world around us. We thank You for hearing our prayers.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.
