O LORD my God,
I come before thee with reverence and gratitude, holding close the words of thy Holy Scripture. Thou hast spoken, and thy truth stands sure: “Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.” Lord, let these words not only be upon my lips, but written deep within my heart, shaping my thoughts, my choices, my worship, and my whole life.
Father, thou knowest the weight I have carried—sorrows spoken and unspoken, disappointments that have lingered, and burdens that have pressed upon my soul. There have been seasons when I have worn sackcloth in spirit, when grief has felt like a garment I could not remove, and when my strength seemed too small for the day. Yet I confess before thee that thou art the God who changes seasons and transforms hearts. Thou art not limited by what overwhelms me. Thou art not intimidated by what I fear. Thou art not distant from what pains me. Thou art near, and thou art able.
So I thank thee, Lord, that thy word declares: “Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing.” I ask thee to do this work in me again and again. Where there is mourning, bring thy comfort. Where there is heaviness, breathe thy hope. Where there is loss, grant thy gentle healing. Where there is regret, wash me clean and lead me in thy mercy. Where there is weariness, renew my strength. Let the change thou bringest not be shallow or fleeting, but deep and true—rooted in thy presence and sustained by thy promises.
Lord, thou hast also said, “thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness.” I praise thee because thou art able to remove what I cannot remove on my own. Take off every garment of despair, every cloak of shame, every covering of bitterness, every layer of fear that tries to define me. Gird me with gladness—not a gladness dependent on circumstances, but a gladness anchored in thee. Let thy gladness be my strength. Let it steady my mind, guard my heart, and shape my speech. Teach me to rejoice with humility, to smile with sincerity, and to live with the quiet confidence that thou art faithful.
And Lord, I pray for the purpose thy word reveals: “To the end that [my] glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent.” Deliver me from silent gratitude and hidden worship. Deliver me from forgetfulness when the storm passes. Deliver me from the temptation to attribute thy blessings to my own effort. Let my whole being—my mind, my will, my emotions, my testimony—be awakened to praise. Put a song in me that cannot be quenched by trouble. Put thanksgiving in me that cannot be stolen by delay. Put reverence in me that cannot be dulled by familiarity.
Make my life a living hymn. In my home, let my glory sing praise to thee. In my work, let my glory sing praise to thee. In my conversations, let my glory sing praise to thee. In private and in public, in plenty and in want, in laughter and in tears—let me not be silent concerning thy goodness. May my words be seasoned with gratitude. May my actions reflect thy grace. May my choices honor thy name.
Finally, with the faith of thy servant, I say before heaven and earth: “O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.” Teach me what it means to give thanks without ceasing, to bless thy name in every season, and to remember that the greatest gift is thy presence. Thou hast been my help, my healer, my deliverer, my comfort, and my hope. Keep me near unto thee, that my praise may be pure and my thanksgiving steadfast.
O LORD my God, turn my mourning into dancing. Put off my sackcloth, and gird me with gladness. And to the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.
In the name of the Lord, Amen.
