A Prayer for Compassion and Grace
"But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth." - Psalms 86:15

O Divine and Mighty Lord,
In humble reverence, I approach Your throne of grace, marveling at the essence of who You are as illuminated in Psalm 86:15: "But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.”
Lord, I declare Your compassion over my life and the lives of those dear to me. You are the God who sees our afflictions and bears our burdens. Your heart breaks with ours in times of sorrow, and Your arms are ever-open to embrace us in our struggles. When the weight of the world seems too heavy to carry, help us to remember that we have a compassionate God who understands our pain and journeys with us through the valleys.Come wash over us, O Lord, with Your boundless compassion. Help us to feel Your presence in our darkest moments. May Your compassion so fill our hearts that we may pour it out to those around us who are hurting. Teach us to be vessels of Your love, extending grace and kindness to others who may be suffering silently. Let our actions reflect Your unchanging nature, that others might see You through us.
Father, I marvel at Your grace, unearned and immeasurable. You extend Your gracious hand to us despite our shortcomings, reminding us that it is not by our own merits that we are accepted, but solely by Your love. Instill in us a deep understanding of this grace that we may live in light of it every day. When we falter and feel unworthy, let Your words echo within us, instilling hope and strength. Help us to accept Your grace wholeheartedly, even when it feels undeserved.
As we acknowledge Your longsuffering, we are overwhelmed by Your patience, dear Lord. You watch over us, allowing us the time to grow, to repent, and to return to You when we stray. Your longsuffering sets an example for us, teaching us to practice forbearance with those around us. In a world that often seeks immediate resolutions and instant gratifications, help us remember the value of patience. Encourage us, Lord, to be patient and gentle, just as You are with us. May we extend grace to those who may test our limits, reminding us that everyone carries burdens we may not see.
Lord, as I lift my heart in prayer, I invoke Your mercy, which knows no bounds. You, O God, are plenteous in mercy and truth. In a time where mercy can feel scarce and justice can seem harsh, help us grasp the depth of Your mercy. Let it seep into our hearts and transform our perspective of others. May we give freely of the mercy You have so generously bestowed upon us, forgiving as You forgive, loving as You love. Let our responses to others be rooted in mercy and truth, reflecting Your great character.
In moments when we feel lost or uncertain, show us the beauty and security found in Your truth. Your word is a lamp unto our feet, and Your truth sets us free. Let us cling to Your promises and be anchored in Your eternal word. May we walk boldly in faith, sharing Your truth with others, that they too may taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
O Lord, my heart is grateful for Your endless compassion, grace, longsuffering, mercy, and truth. Help us to embody the character of Christ in our lives, radiating compassion to the broken-hearted, extending grace to the undeserving, exercising patience with the troubled, and promoting mercy and truth in all our dealings.
I ask these things in the precious name of Jesus, who embodies all that You are. Amen.
