A Prayer of Reverent Awe and Divine Comfort
"And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:" - Revelation 1:17

O Sovereign Lord, Almighty God, as I come before You in this moment of solemn reflection, I am reminded of the profound encounter recorded in Revelation 1:17: "And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last." Gracious Father, I bow my heart in worship, understanding the weight of Your majesty as revealed to John. The sight of Your glory is overwhelming, and like John, I recognize that in the presence of true holiness, my frailty and sinfulness are starkly illuminated.
Lord God, I earnestly pray for the gift of awe. May I never lose the sense of wonder at Your magnificence and power. You are the Ancient of Days, O God, the beginning and the end, the author of time and eternity. I confess that too often I rush into Your presence with an ungrateful heart; I forget the gravity of who You are. Forgive me, Lord, for my fickle nature and for the moments I overlook the sacredness of my communication with You. As I reflect on John’s response, I feel the weight of my own heart. Help me to see You fully, that I might fall at Your feet in reverence, acknowledging Your holiness.
In the stillness of this moment, I imagine the overwhelming vision that seized John, and I too want to fall at Your feet. I desire to lay down my burdens, my fears, and my worries at Your feet. Just as John was overcome, I bring my brokenness, my doubts, and my grief into Your presence. I find it hard to grasp the power encapsulated in the truth that You are both the first and the last. You, who authored the world and my life's story, are in control of every chapter. I lay my life before You, Lord, graciously accepting Your hand upon me, just as John did.
As he felt the gentle touch of comfort from You, remind me of Your loving hand. Lord, I need Your comforting assurance in a world full of chaos. Your words to John echo into my life: "Fear not". In times of uncertainty and fear, help me to find solace in Your eternal presence. When life seems overwhelming, remind me that there is nothing in this world I face that is greater than Your power. Teach me to trust that You hold not only my present circumstances but also my future in Your capable hands. In my valleys of despair and moments of anxiety, may Your voice calm my racing heart, steady my wandering thoughts, and envelop me in Your peace that surpasses all understanding.
Today, Lord, I bring before You those who are burdened with fear and anxiety. May they experience Your right hand upon them, granting them comfort and peace that only You can provide. Just as You comforted John, may those who mourn or face insurmountable challenges feel Your presence and hear You whisper, "Fear not." Let the assurance that You are the First and the Last, the Alpha and Omega, permeate their hearts. May they find courage in Your everlasting promise and strength in Your unchanging nature.
O Lord, illuminate my heart and mind as I meditate on Your Word. Help me remember that every new day brings renewed grace and every struggle, a testament to Your unshakeable love. I choose to hold on to the truth that You are not only my beginning but also my ending, and in Your hands, every part of my journey is significant.
As I conclude this prayer, I ask that You manifest Your presence in my life. Allow me to experience the depth of Your love and the breadth of Your comfort. May I walk in the light of Your truth, understanding that in reverence I find peace, in surrender I find strength, and in You, I find my hope. Thank You, Lord, for Your divine assurance. Amen.
