Prayer for Divine Witness and Strength in Troubling Times
"And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months. And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly." - Revelation 11:1-14
Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with hearts yearning for understanding, wisdom, and strength as we reflect on the profound truths found in Revelation 11:1-14. Your Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pathway, and we seek revelation through Your Holy Spirit to comprehend the depths of this scripture.
Lord, in this passage, we see the powerful interplay between Your divine authority and our earthly existence. You have given us a reed like unto a rod, a symbol of authority and measurement. May we, like the angel speaking to John, rise up and measure the temple of God, recognizing the importance of holiness in our lives. Help us to discern what it means to worship You in spirit and truth, to be true worshippers in Your presence, and to acknowledge the altar as sacred ground. May our hearts be continually aligned with You as we bow down in reverence.
Father, we observe the stern caution given to leave out the court which is without the temple, for it is given unto the Gentiles. Help us to understand the significance of this instruction. There are aspects of our lives, our hearts, and the world around us that may not be in accordance with Your will. Teach us to discern those things, that we might focus on what You deem vital and eternal. Let us not be swayed by the world, which trots the holy city underfoot for a time. Instead, grant us the courage to stand firm in our faith even amidst adversity.
We lift up the two witnesses, those prophetic voices clothed in sackcloth. Lord, we ask that You instill a spirit of prophecy within us, that we may boldly declare Your truths in a world that often disregards and disdains them. Just as You empowered them to shut heaven and turn waters to blood, instill in us a passionate desire to proclaim Your Gospel powerfully and effectively. In a world rife with sin and chaos, may we be heralds of Your righteousness.
But, Lord, we recognize the reality of opposition and struggle. As the witnesses faced hatred and were slain for their testimony, we too may encounter ridicule and persecution. Help us to find strength in the knowledge that we are not alone. You are with us, guiding and sustaining us. Empower us to remain steadfast, knowing that the victory belongs to You and that overcoming is assured through our faith.
We pray for the nations who observed the demise of Your prophets, that a great fear may fall upon them as they witness Your workings in our lives. May they come to experience the reality of Your majesty and the gifts of repentance and grace. Your victory is assured, and we cling to the hope that rises from despair, trusting that the spirit of life from God will continue to breathe in us and through us.
As we reflect on the great earthquake that followed the ascension of the witnesses, we are reminded of the intensifying nature of Your judgments upon the earth. Help us to live in holiness, fearing You as our God, yet rejoicing in our salvation. Let our lives reflect glory back to You as we await the culmination of all things, giving You the glory due unto Your name.
As we dwell on the revelation of the third woe that cometh quickly, may we remain vigilant, steadfast in prayer and in truth, striving to fulfill our calling as Kingdom ambassadors. We seek the empowerment of Your Spirit to be effective witnesses in this dark age, knowing that, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
