A Prayer for Provision and Preservation
"And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." - Revelation 6:6

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today with a heart filled with gratitude and longing. In the midst of uncertainty and trials that plague our world, we turn our eyes towards You, our source of strength and hope. I reflect on the words of Revelation 6:6, where we hear a voice amid the four beasts proclaiming, "A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." Lord, these words resonate deeply in my spirit as they speak to the delicate balance of provisions and the preservation of Your blessings in the lives we lead.
Father, we recognize the significance of wheat and barley, foundational elements that represent sustenance and life. In times of scarcity, it often feels as though we are grappling with the cost of our needs, whether material, emotional, or spiritual. Just as the voice in the Revelation speaks of a measure for a price—let us not forget that You are the ultimate provider. You are our daily bread and the source of every good thing in our lives. Teach us, O Lord, to trust in Your provision even when the world around us seems bleak.
I pray for those who are in dire need today—those who feel the weight of hunger, both physical and spiritual. May they remember that You see their plight, and may they find solace in the promise of Your sustenance. Help us, Lord, to be vessels of Your grace, reaching out to support the hungry, sharing resources and love, and embodying the spirit of generosity that You displayed when You walked among us.
Moreover, I ponder the latter part of this verse, "and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." These elements symbolize richness, joy, and abundance. They are reminders of the blessings You have poured into our lives. Yet, we live in a world that often exploits and diminishes the blessings bestowed upon us. Protect our hearts and our spirits, dear Lord, from the weariness that comes from constantly striving for what is shiny and new. Instead, allow us to find joy in Your presence, cherishing the oil of gladness and the wine of Your love.
Lord, grant us wisdom to discern the true richness of life. Help us to cultivate a heart of gratitude so profound that we see the blessings in every measure of wheat and barley, in every drop of oil and every sip of wine. Let us not take for granted the essential things—love, family, community, and faith. I pray we find comfort in knowing that even during famines and droughts, the oil of Your blessings will remain intact, nourishing our souls and providing joy.
As we gather in prayer, I plead with You to bring peace to families struggling financially. Calm the storms raging in their lives, and help them to find contentment in what they already have, trusting in Your provision for the future. May they feel Your presence close to them, reassuring them that they are not alone.
In addition, I ask that You guide our leaders and decision-makers to be wise stewards of resources. Inspire them to create systems that nurture life rather than exploit the needy. In doing so, let us all be cautious to not harm the vital gifts You have given us, recognizing the significance of every measure.
In all things, Lord, help us to remember that ultimately, our sustenance comes from You. We bless You, dear Father, for hearing our prayers, and we approach you with a heart filled with faith. May we live each day in a manner that honors You, rejoicing in the abundance of Your love.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
