"Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:12-14

As we delve into Philippians 3:12-14, let’s take a moment to reflect on the profound insight the Apostle Paul provides regarding our spiritual journey. In this passage, Paul reveals the relentless pursuit of faith that characterizes every true believer's walk with Christ. The richness of these verses invites us into a deeper understanding and a more intentional application of God’s Word in our lives.

Starting with verse 12, Paul writes, "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus." Here, we find Paul neither resting on his accomplishments nor viewing himself as perfected. Instead, he expresses a continual striving towards a goal—apprehending that for which Christ has apprehended him. This sets an important precedent for us: spiritual maturity is not a destination but a continuous pursuit. We are reminded that salvation is only the beginning of our relationship with Christ. Just as Paul was apprehended for a purpose, so too are we. We must ask ourselves: What is the purpose for which Christ has claimed us as His own? Are we earnestly seeking to fulfill that purpose in our daily lives?

In the next verse, Paul emphasizes the importance of letting go of our past, stating, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before." This verse speaks volumes about the need for spiritual focus. The act of forgetting is not merely about ignoring our past or pretending it did not happen; rather, it involves a conscious decision to release the burdens we carry—be they regrets, sins, or even former successes that could lead to complacency. Paul encourages us to focus on what lies ahead, reminding us that our journey with Christ is dynamic, full of potential for growth and discovery.

As we navigate through our own lives, can we truly forget the things of the past that hinder our progress? It could be a painful offense, a failure, or perhaps even pride in our past achievements. If we hold on to these, they may stifle our growth and prevent us from reaching the fullness of what God has for us. Letting go allows us to move forward with purpose and clarity. God desires for us to be free from the weight of our past as we embrace His future for us.

Paul concludes in verse 14 with a powerful declaration: "I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." The word 'press' indicates action and intent; it requires determination and effort. In a world filled with distractions and discouragements, we must be actively pressing towards our goals in Christ. This ‘mark’ or goal reflects our ultimate calling and the high privileges we have in Jesus. He calls us to aspire for the Heavenly reward, a relationship with Him that will result in eternal life and the joyous fulfillment of being in His presence.

As we meditate on these verses, let us challenge ourselves to reflect on our current spiritual state. Are we stagnant or growing? Is our focus on the past hindering us from achieving our future? How committed are we to pressing forward in our faith? The pursuit of Christ is filled with challenges, but immensely rewarding. The prize is not only a destination but the very relationship we cultivate with Him along the way.

Today, let us renew our commitment to press on in our faith. Let us forget what is behind, concentrate on what lies ahead, and with diligence, strive for the high calling God has set before us. May our hearts be inspired today to chase after Christ, who has already laid hold of us, and may we pursue Him relentlessly.
