Heavenly Father,

As we come before Your majestic throne today, we thank You for the gift of this day, the first day of the week, a beautiful reminder of Your resurrection power and new beginnings. We echo with thankful hearts the words of 1 Corinthians 16:2, which encourage us with the directive: "Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come."

Lord, we acknowledge that all we have is a gift from You. Our abilities, our time, our resources—everything we possess is a testament to Your boundless generosity. Your Word reassures us that as we lay by in store, we are acting in accordance with Your divine will and preparing to meet the needs of our community and beyond. Help us to understand deeply that giving is not merely a duty, but a joyful response to Your love and provision.

Holy Spirit, prompt us each week as we gather in worship and fellowship. May this gathering not only be a time of praise and worship but also an opportunity for us to reflect on Your continuous blessings in our lives. Remind us to assess our circumstances honestly and to consider how we might respond to those needs that arise within our families, our churches, and our neighborhoods. Give us clarity about how we can sow into the work of Your kingdom. Let our giving reflect the prosperity You have granted us.

Father, help us to remember that laying by in store is not just a financial gesture, but a heart posture. Remove any stinginess and selfishness from our spirits, and replace it with a generous heart. Teach us the beauty of giving not just out of abundance but out of gratitude—grateful for what You've done, for the way You've cared for us through the ups and downs of life. Help us to dedicate a portion of our resources with intentionality, recognizing that through these acts of kindness and generosity, we mirror Your character.

We also pray for wisdom as we decide how much to lay by and how to distribute our resources once gathered. Let us operate in faith, trusting that when we share our blessings, they multiply in ways we cannot see. Let us remember the words of Jesus as He declared that it is more blessed to give than to receive. May we find joy in giving of ourselves because we recognize that every seed sown is a testament to our faith in You, our faithful Provider.

Lord, give us unity as a community of believers as we embrace this practice faithfully each week. May our gathering on the first day serve as a foretaste of the eternal communion we shall have in Your presence. Use this intentional practice of our giving not only to meet immediate needs but to foster a bond of love and service among us, leaving us all enriched by generosity and grace.

As the Apostle Paul wrote, let not our gatherings be merely routine, but filled with purpose—purpose that glorifies You. Let these acts of service and sharing draw others into Your fold, demonstrating to the world that we believe in a God who provides abundantly.

We commit this prayer to You, Lord. May our lives reflect the teachings of Christ, and may our actions be consistent with our faith in You. Lead us in this journey of generosity and preparedness so that when the time comes for us to gather, we can do so with full hearts, unified by a mission greater than ourselves.
