Beloved Children, Waiting in Hope to See Him as He Is
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." - 1 John 3:2

Beloved Father in heaven, in the holy and precious name of Jesus Christ, I come before Thee with reverence, gratitude, and holy expectation. I thank Thee for Thy Word that steadies my heart when my mind is uncertain, and I bless Thee for the sure promise spoken by Thy Spirit: “Beloved, now are we the sons of God.” Lord, I receive this truth not as a passing comfort, but as a covenant declaration. Not someday, not after I have proven myself, not after I have earned it, but now—by Thy grace, through faith in Thy Son—Thou hast called me Thy child. Let this identity sink deep within me. Silence every voice of accusation and every fear that questions whether I belong to Thee. Teach my heart to rest in what Thou hast already spoken.
Yet, Father, Thy Word also says, “and it doth not yet appear what we shall be.” I confess that I often feel the weight of this “not yet.” I see my weaknesses, my limitations, and the unfinished places in my character. I look at the world and groan at sorrow, temptation, and loss. Sometimes I am impatient with the process of sanctification; sometimes I grow weary because I cannot fully see what Thou art forming in me. But today I yield to Thy wisdom. I acknowledge that Thou art at work even when I cannot measure it, and Thou art faithful even when I feel incomplete. Help me to trust Thee in the hidden work, in the quiet shaping, in the daily obedience where no one applauds. Keep me from despairing over what has not yet appeared, and keep me from pride when I see progress. Make me humble, steady, and hopeful.
Lord, I cling to the promise that shines in the middle of mystery: “but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him.” Father, thank Thee that my future is not uncertain, for it is anchored to the appearing of Jesus Christ. Let this blessed hope purify my desires, strengthen my resolve, and order my priorities. When distractions call loudly, remind me that I am being prepared to be like Him. When sin offers false comfort, show me its emptiness compared to the glory of becoming like Christ. Shape my thoughts, my speech, my habits, and my motives so they may reflect the life of Thy Son. Teach me to love what He loves, to hate what He hates, to serve as He served, to forgive as He forgave, and to walk in meekness and truth.
And Father, I worship Thee for the last and wondrous word of the verse: “for we shall see him as he is.” What mercy, what grace, what unimaginable kindness—that I, a redeemed sinner, shall see the Lord Jesus Christ as He is. Not through shadows, not through earthly confusion, not through partial understanding, but with unveiled reality. Prepare me for that day. Let the certainty of seeing Him steady me when my heart trembles. Let the promise of beholding Him comfort me in grief. Let it give me courage when obedience is costly. Let it sustain me when the path feels long. Keep my faith from becoming cold or merely religious; make it living and longing, patient and pure.
Father, while I wait for His appearing, help me to live as a true son of God. Teach me to walk in holiness without hypocrisy, to pursue righteousness without self-righteousness, and to love others as one who has been loved by Thee. Let my life bear witness that I belong to Thy family. Strengthen me by Thy Spirit when I am tempted, correct me when I wander, and restore me quickly when I fall. Place within me a deep hunger for Thy presence and Thy Word. Guard my eyes and my ears, my thoughts and my tongue. Set a watch over my heart, and make me faithful in the small things.
Lord, I pray for all who feel forgotten, unworthy, or spiritually exhausted. Remind them also of Thy promise: “Beloved, now are we the sons of God.” Lift the bowed head. Heal the wounded conscience. Rekindle hope in the weary soul. And may we, as Thy people, live with our faces turned toward the coming of Christ, confident that “when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
I give Thee praise for what Thou hast done, what Thou art doing, and what Thou hast promised to complete. Hold me fast until that day, and let my life honor Jesus Christ. In His mighty name I pray, Amen.
