"Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem." - 1 Kings 12:18

O Gracious and Almighty Father,

As I bow my head before You this day, I come with a humble spirit, mindful of the lessons of history captured in Your Holy Word. I reflect upon the words in 1 Kings 12:18, where we witness the grave consequences of leadership decisions and the human heart’s desire for justice, understanding, and compassion. "Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem." Lord, may I draw deep insights from this profound account.

Heavenly Father, You have placed leaders over nations, families, and communities, granting authority and responsibility to guide Your people with wisdom and integrity. Yet, like King Rehoboam, we often face decisions that can lead to division and strife. I pray for our leaders and those in positions of authority to seek Your guidance before making decisions that affect the lives of many. Instill in them a spirit of humility, that they may listen more than they speak, and learn from the wisdom of those they serve. May they recognize that true leadership is not found in force but in service.

Lord, I reflect on how King Rehoboam chose a path that led to the tragic stoning of Adoram. Such violence and anger were ignited by the refusal to heed wise counsel. Help leaders everywhere to seek and embrace counsel from those who honor You, Lord. Guide them toward mentors who are not afraid to tell the truth, leaders who will lead them away from arrogance and toward understanding.

In our own lives, Lord, we are sometimes faced with decision-making that can either build community or tear it apart. Teach us, Father, to weigh our choices against Your Word. May we always strive to think not only of our interests but also of the interests of others, recognizing that each decision ripples through the lives of many. Help us to remain composed, responding to conflict with grace, and seeking reconciliation rather than discord.

I pray for those who are feeling the pain of betrayal or disappointment like the people of Israel, who were led into anger by a lack of understanding and respect. Heal our hearts, O God, and create within us a spirit of forgiveness. Help us to remember that every leader is but human, fallible and prone to error, as we are. May we extend grace as we seek to hold them accountable—may it be done with love and not hatred.

Heavenly Father, as Rehoboam fled to Jerusalem, may we also seek refuge in You during times of turmoil. Allow us to find our peace in Your presence, turning our worries into prayers and our fears into faith. Help us to remember that the true strength of a leader comes not from the power they wield but from a deep connection to You—the ultimate source of wisdom, love, and understanding.

Lord, I ask that You rise up faithful leaders around the world, who are willing to stand boldly for truth and righteousness, who will prioritize justice, mercy, and humility over power and control. Ignite a passion for peace in their hearts, that together we may build a society grounded in respect and understanding.

In closing, I lift my petition to You, asking that in moments of doubt, anger, or confusion, we will lean not on our own understanding but on the wisdom of Your teachings. May Your Holy Spirit guide us to act wisely, compassionately, and courageously, ensuring that we cultivate an environment of unity and love. Thank You, dear Lord, for the lessons You provide and for nurturing hearts that seek Your will.

In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.
