A Prayer for the Hidden Prophets
"For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)" - 1 Kings 18:4

Heavenly Father, we come before You today in reverence and humility, seeking to understand the depth of Your Word and the powerful truths contained within it. We take a moment to reflect on the profound moment detailed in 1 Kings 18:4, where it is written, "For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water." Lord, we recognize the grave situation facing Your prophets during this time. It is a stark reminder of the darkness that can overtake the land when a leader turns away from You and imposes threats on those who serve You faithfully.
O Lord, we first want to acknowledge the courage of Obadiah, who, despite the terrifying rule of Jezebel, remained faithful to You. We thank You for raising up individuals like him who are willing to take a stand and protect what is righteous. Help us, dear Father, to embody such bravery in our own lives. Grant us the insight to recognize the threats against Your servants today, so that we, too, can be vessels of protection and provision for those who are persecuted for their faith.
In times of trial and tribulation, as the prophets faced in that era, remind us, Lord, that You are our refuge and strength. As Obadiah supplied bread and water to those hidden away in the caves, may we always strive to provide sustenance to those in need—whether it be physical nourishment, emotional support, or spiritual guidance. Encourage us to be diligent in our efforts to reach out to our brothers and sisters who may be feeling isolated, alone, or unsafe in their walk with You.
Father, we also plea for the oppressed throughout the world today, those who are silenced by fear and persecution. We ask that You cover them in Your encompassing love and grace. Just as You protected the prophets during those dark times, provide a hedge of protection around Your faithful servants now who cry out for justice and freedom to worship You openly. May they feel Your presence with them, knowing that they are not alone in their struggles, and that their faith is being honored and witnessed in the spiritual realm.
Lord Jesus, we reflect on the power of provision that Obadiah exemplified. He recognized that those hidden away needed sustenance to survive, a reminder that we must tend to both our physical and spiritual needs. Teach us to care for one another holistically, understanding that love is a shared responsibility and that we are called to be the body of Christ—to act with compassion and diligence. As we partake in our daily lives, may we be sensitive to the needs around us, ready and willing to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or a comforting word when it's most needed.
We take this moment to intercede for those who are in leadership positions today. We ask for Your wisdom over our leaders, that they would govern with justice and integrity, seeking to protect those who serve You wholeheartedly. Change the hearts of those who turn against You and lead them to repentance, that they may see the error of their ways and choose to uphold what is good and right.
As we move forward, Lord, instill in us a spirit of solidarity with our fellow believers. We pray that we can be a community that fosters encouragement, support, and love, so that Your prophets may thrive in bringing Your truth to the world.
Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. May our lives serve as a testament to Your faithfulness, even amid trials. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
