"And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?" - 1 Kings 19:20

O Lord Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth, I come before You today with a heart full of reverence and gratitude. As I meditate upon the profound encounter of Elisha when he was called by Your prophet Elijah, I am reminded of the pivotal moments in our lives when You call us to step away from the mundane and into Your divine purpose. In 1 Kings 19:20, it is written, "And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?"

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Elisha, who, upon receiving a call from You through Elijah, recognized the significance of that moment. He understood that the call to follow You would require him to leave behind his old life, represented by the oxen he tended. Lord, help me to have that same understanding of my calling. May I be able to discern the invitations You extend to me, whether in moments of stillness or through the voices of others.

God, give me the courage to leave behind the things that weigh me down or distract me from my journey with You. Just as Elisha felt the urgency to run after Elijah, I pray for a heart that seeks to pursue Your path with fervor and dedication. Teach me to recognize the things I need to let go of to fully embrace the new life You offer. Help me to prioritize my relationship with You above all else, for in You, I find my true identity and purpose.

It is significant that Elisha asked to say goodbye to his parents before following Elijah. This highlights the importance of relationships and the emotional weight of leaving loved ones. Lord, I pray for the grace to balance my commitment to You and the relationships in my life. I seek the wisdom to communicate my intentions with love and respect, reassuring those close to me that my devotion to You will enhance, rather than diminish, my love for them.

Oh God, may I approach each moment with a spirit of gratitude, honoring the sacrifices made by those who have nurtured and taught me. Bless my parents and all those who have supported me on this journey. Grant me the patience to show them the fruits of my walk with You as I step further into Your plans for my life. Protect my relationships, Father, and allow them to be a source of encouragement as I seek to follow You in faith.

As I embark on this journey, I also recognize the doubts that arise. Sometimes I wonder whether I am truly capable of following the path You have laid before me. In those moments of insecurity, help me to remember Elijah’s response, "What have I done to thee?" Teach me, Lord, that Your call is not contingent upon my abilities but rather infused with Your love and power. Remind me that You equip those You call, that I might not shrink back in fear but step forward in faith.

Lord, may my running after You become a daily pursuit, a commitment that resonates in all I do. Transform my heart to desire You above all else and embolden me to share this resolve with those I encounter. Use me, Father, as an instrument of Your will that reflects Your love and truth into the world. Thank You for Your patience and for the grace that sustains me on this journey.

In the name of Jesus, who is my guide and my strength, I pray. Amen.
