O Lord, our God, we come before You today in awe of Your greatness, humbled by Your majesty and recognizing our dependence on You for every provision in our lives. We humbly seek Your face, inspired by the words found in 1 Samuel 2:36, "And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread."

Heavenly Father, this scripture reveals the dire circumstances that can come upon us when we stray from Your commandments, when we live in disobedience, and when we rely solely on our own strength. Lord, as we reflect on this warning, we acknowledge that without You, we are nothing. We confess that there have been times in our lives when we have acted like the sons of Eli, putting aside our dedication to You, chasing after our own desires, and neglecting our roles as faithful servants of Your Kingdom.

We ask for forgiveness, O God, for the moments we have chosen our selfish ambitions over our commitment to Your holy service. In Your mercy, Lord, help us to recognize how far we have fallen, just as Eli and his family had to witness the consequences of their choices. May we never take for granted the privilege of serving You and being instruments of Your love and grace in this world.

Gracious God, in this prayer, we acknowledge the profound truth that without You, we have no provision and no sustenance. As the verse poignantly illustrates, there may come a time when our needs drive us to our knees in humility, begging for sustenance—a piece of silver and a morsel of bread. We realize that every morsel we receive comes from Your generous hand. Teach us, Lord, to be content and to seek the spiritual food that only You can provide. Help us understand that our true nourishment lies not in the material blessings of this world but in a deep, abiding relationship with You—a relationship that feeds our souls.

In the presence of the Holy Spirit, we acknowledge our weakness. We pray for those who find themselves in need today, those who crouch in desperation, longing for a piece of bread—both physically and spiritually. Help us to be sensitive to their needs, Lord. May our hearts break for what breaks Yours. Let us be generous in giving of our resources and support to those around us who are struggling. Foster in us a spirit of compassion and love that mirrors Your own.

As we reflect on the call from those left behind—the longing for positions of service in the priesthood—we pray that we may embrace our priesthood of believers. Strengthen our resolve to serve faithfully and to pursue holiness, lest we too find ourselves in want. Let our lives be characterized by humility, not seeking status or recognition but longing to serve You wholeheartedly.

Lord, remind us that should we ever find ourselves in lowly circumstances, we are always welcome to come to You. You invite us to cast all our cares upon You, knowing that You care for us. And it is in our deepest need that we connect most profoundly with Your grace. In those moments, may we capture a glimpse of our deep reliance on You—acknowledging, in humility and brokenness, that You alone are our source of strength.

So today, Father, we choose to lean into Your provision. We surrender our ambitions and desires to Your will. We seek not the bread of this world, but the bread of life that comes from Your presence.
