A Prayer for Abundance and Gratitude
"And the woman had a fat calf in the house; and she hasted, and killed it, and took flour, and kneaded it, and did bake unleavened bread thereof:" - 1 Samuel 28:24

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, my heart is filled with gratitude for the blessings in my life. In the story of 1 Samuel 28:24, I am reminded of the woman who, in the midst of her need, prepared a beautiful feast—killing a fat calf, kneading flour, and baking unleavened bread with haste. Lord, I thank You for highlighting the importance of provision, care, and generosity in this act. Just as she took immediate action to honor the needs of her guest, help me to respond with readiness and a spirit of abundance in my own life.
Father, I acknowledge that everything I have comes from You. You are the source of all good things, and I reflect on the ways You have provided for me—spiritually, emotionally, and materially. Just as the woman prepared a meal with what she had, guide me in using the resources at my disposal to bless others. Teach me to be mindful of those around me who may need support. Help me not to hold tightly onto my possessions but to freely share, knowing that You are my ultimate provider.
Lord, I reflect upon the significance of the fat calf; it represents abundance, richness, and the joy of celebration. May I also bring forth the ‘fat’ of my life—a life full of love, joy, and generosity. May I be a vessel of Your love, pouring out kindness to others, and recognizing opportunities to uplift those who are weary. Open my eyes to see where I can nourish those who feel spiritually or emotionally malnourished, as that woman nourished her guest.
As she hastened in her actions, grant me a heart that responds swiftly to Your promptings. Help me to recognize the moments when You call me to serve, whether it be through a kind word, a helping hand, or a sacrificial act. Do not allow me to hesitate out of fear or doubt, but instill in me a courage to act with faith, knowing that You have equipped me for every good work.
Nurture within me a spirit of creativity and innovation so I might know how to best serve. Just as the woman used flour to create unleavened bread, lead me to use my talents and skills in unique ways that glorify You. Enable me to experience the joy of serving in the daily routines of life, turning ordinary tasks into extraordinary acts of worship and love.
As I knead 'the dough' of my life, may it become a testimony of Your faithfulness. Help me to bake not only bread, but the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. May every interaction I have with others be infused with these elements, reflecting the character of Christ in me.
Moreover, Lord, help me to practice gratitude and appreciation for the gifts You have bestowed upon me. Sometimes I may overlook the ‘fat calves’ of my life, focusing more on what I desire than recognizing the abundance I already possess. Allow my heart to swell with thankfulness for each blessing—big or small—showing me the richness even in the mundane.
As I close this prayer, I commit my day to You, asking that You guide me to be a faithful steward of every resource, every talent, and every blessing. May I be quick to respond to the needs around me with grace and humility. May I also be reminded of Your generous heart and the ultimate sacrifice made for me through Christ, who urged us to share our lives with one another in love and service.
In Jesus' name, I pray,
Amen.
