A Prayer for Divine Alignment and Wisdom
"Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish." - 2 Chronicles 20:37

Gracious and Everlasting Father,
We come before You today, acknowledging Your sovereignty and majesty, as we meditate on the words penned in 2 Chronicles 20:37. In this passage, we witness a profound moment in the life of King Jehoshaphat, wherein the prophet Eliezer delivered a crucial message regarding the consequences of misaligned partnerships. We are reminded that our journey is often interwoven with the choices we make and the alliances we forge.
Lord, as we reflect on the events that befell Jehoshaphat, we seek the wisdom to recognize the importance of divine guidance in our decisions. We pray that You will grant us the discernment to differentiate between relationships ordained by You and those that may draw us away from Your perfect will. Teach us not to join ourselves with those whose values are contrary to Your teachings; rather, let us pursue partnerships that uplift and glorify Your name.
Heavenly Father, we see how Jehoshaphat's ambition to align with Ahaziah led to a breakdown of his works. We often find ourselves striving for success, yet we forget that our pursuits must align with Your purpose for our lives. We ask for Your help in seeking Your counsel before we proceed with agreements or ventures that seem beneficial on the surface. Lead us away from paths that appear prosperous but lead to destruction, and help us to seek first Your kingdom, trusting that all other things will be added unto us.
As Jehoshaphat experienced the breaking of the ships that were intended to take them to Tarshish, let us also consider what ships we are constructing in our own lives. Are they ships of pride, ships of selfish ambition, or perhaps ships of isolation that disregard the community You have placed around us? Lord, we surrender our own plans to You, asking You to either break them and redirect our course if they are not in alignment with Your will or bless them according to Your divine purpose.
In our pursuit of relationship, business, and personal endeavors, we ask that You bring clarity and conviction. Let not our desires cloud our judgment. Help us, Lord, to remember the importance of integrity and righteousness in all our dealings. We plead, Father, that our partnerships – whether in marriage, friendship, or business – honor and glorify You.
Mighty God, we recognize that the world often presents us with enticing alliances that may seem advantageous, but steer us away from Your purposes. As it was for Jehoshaphat, we do not wish to face broken ships or unfulfilled promises. Redirect our hearts and minds so that we are anchored firmly in Your truth, leading us to fruitful relationships that bear witness to Your goodness.
Lord, should we find ourselves entangled in partnerships that do not bring glory to Your name, grant us the courage to step back, reevaluate, and make changes as necessary. We know that You are a God of restoration. Even if we have made mistakes, Your grace is sufficient to pick us up and set us on a new path when we turn our hearts back to You.
Finally, we thank You for Your patience and love. We rejoice in knowing that Your plans for us are good and that You continue to guide us through every season of life. Help us to trust fully in Your provision, drawing comfort in the knowledge that You are in control.
In the name of Jesus, the anchor of our souls, we pray.
Amen.
