A Prayer for Divine Examination and Heart Reflection
"¶ Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart." - 2 Chronicles 32:31

O Lord, Almighty God, creator of the heavens and the earth, I come before You with a heart full of reverence and humility. As I meditate on the words of 2 Chronicles 32:31, "Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to enquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart," I seek to uncover the depths of my own heart before You.
Father, I acknowledge that Your ways are beyond comprehension, and Your purposes are filled with wisdom. You allow trials and tests in our lives not to lead us into despair, but to reveal our true nature and intentions. Lord, I ask You to open my eyes to see the areas in my life where I need to grow, to change, and to become more aligned with Your will. As I consider the ambassadors that came to King Hezekiah, I reflect on how they sought to know the wonders You had performed. They sought to witness the glory and might of God manifested in His people, and yet this encounter became a stirring point in Hezekiah’s heart.
Create in me, O God, a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me. I long to be pure before You, untainted by pride or self-seeking desires. Just as You left Hezekiah to try him, I willingly submit myself to Your divine examination. Help me to face the trials I encounter with grace, recognizing them as opportunities for growth rather than moments of weakness. May each challenge validate the faith I have in You and refine my character to reflect Your holiness.
Lord, I confess that often, I am swayed by external influences, much like the princes of Babylon who sought to understand the might of Your hand. Protect me from the allure of worldly recognition and power. Keep my focus on You, not on human anticipation or accolades. I desire to function under Your sovereignty, never losing sight of the purposes You wish to fulfill in my life. May I seek to understand Your wonders through an intimate relationship with You rather than through the lens of pride or success.
I pray, Holy Spirit, that You guide my heart to discern Your voice amidst the hustle of everyday life. Enable me to recognize the tests You place before me, allowing me to engage with them constructively. Let the trials I face bring forth a deepened knowledge of You, a knowledge that transforms my heart and strengthens my faith. I yearn for a heart that finds joy in trials, knowing that they produce perseverance, character, and hope.
As we seek to honor You, Lord, help us not to be enamored with ourselves or with what we accomplish but to bring glory to Your name. Remind me that every blessing and every act of service is made possible because of Your grace alone. When the world looks to us for comparisons and stories of success, grant us the wisdom to redirect their attention to You, the one who is the source of all that is good.
Finally, Lord, I pray for the clarity to understand all that is in my heart. Shine Your light into the hidden corners where darkness may linger. Help me to confront any bitterness, envy, or unfulfilled desires that may cloud my vision of You. I desire a heart that beats in rhythm with Your will, and I know that for this to manifest, I must be willing to lay it all before You.
In closing, I submit my life, my joys, and my struggles to You, knowing that You are a good God who knows me intimately. Let Your will be done in my life, and let my heart be ever turned toward You. In Jesus' mighty name, I pray, Amen.
