A Prayer for Assurance and Diligence in Our Calling
"Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:" - 2 Peter 1:10

Heavenly Father, in the stillness of this moment, we humbly come before You, seeking Your divine presence and wisdom. We approach Your throne of grace with hearts that are filled with reverence and awe, recognizing the beauty and significance of Your Word, particularly as we ponder the profound message contained in 2 Peter 1:10: "Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall."
Lord, we thank You for the calling that You have placed upon each of our lives. It is not by chance that we find ourselves at this moment, for You have orchestrated our paths with purpose and intention. We are chosen for greatness, called to be ambassadors of Your love and grace in this world. We stand in gratitude for this high calling, but we also acknowledge the weight of responsibility that it carries.
As we reflect on the instruction to give diligence, we ask for Your empowerment, O God. Help us to understand what it truly means to be diligent in our faith. In a world filled with distractions and temptations, it is easy to veer off course. We pray for the strength to focus our hearts and minds on our calling, to pursue it with zeal and unwavering commitment.
Grant us discernment, Lord, to recognize the areas in which we must endeavor more earnestly. Illuminate the path before us with Your holy light, revealing the steps we need to take. May we cultivate virtues in our lives such as faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity, as instructed in the preceding verses. Help us to embody these characteristics in all that we do, reflecting Your nature and love to those around us.
Father, we ask that You fortify our hearts against doubts that can arise as we strive to make our calling and election sure. Remind us that our assurance is not based on our works alone but on Your promises that are everlasting. Help us to grasp the fullness of the grace that saves us, knowing that while diligence is essential, it is Your grace that sustains us.
We come before You, Lord, with our struggles and our fears. Sometimes we may question our worthiness or our ability to fulfill the calling You have given us. In those moments of insecurity, remind us that You are the One who equips the called. You do not look at our past failures but at our potential to serve and glorify You. Infuse us with confidence that we are able to do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
Teach us, O God, to remain steadfast in our commitment to grow in our faith and in our understanding of Your will. Encourage us to seek fellowship with other believers, sharing in the journey of faith as we encourage one another to stay true to the calling we have received. May we consistently hold one another accountable, inspiring each other toward love and good works.
And when we falter or feel the weight of the world pressing down upon us, let us remember Your promise that if we do these things, we shall never fall. In this assurance, we find peace. We claim that peace, O Lord, believing that our security rests in Your unwavering love.
As we pray for diligence in our calling, we also pray for the grace to trust completely in Your sovereign plan. May our lives be a testament to Your glory, an example of what it means to walk in Your ways. And when we stand before You at the end of our earthly journey, may we hear the words we long to hear: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
We thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing promise. May we be diligent, faithful, and unwavering in our pursuit of You, that we may make our calling and election sure. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
