The Call to Witness: A Prayer for Empowerment and Boldness

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." - Acts 1:8

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." - Acts 1:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts full of gratitude and awe for the incredible promise You have given us in Your Word. As we reflect upon Acts 1:8, we are reminded of the profound truth that we are called to be witnesses for You, empowered by the Holy Ghost. ‘But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.’ Lord, this promise stirs something deep within us—a longing to fulfill the Great Commission that You entrusted to us.

We thank You, Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who comes to guide, teach, and empower us as we navigate through this world. It is by His strength that we can overcome our fears and doubts and step boldly into our roles as Your representatives. Lord, we ask that You fill us anew with Your Holy Spirit today. Let Your power surge within us, igniting a passion to share Your love and truth everywhere we go.

As we consider our ‘Jerusalem,’ the immediate surroundings of our lives, help us to see the opportunities for witness that are present in our communities, families, and workplaces. Grant us the courage to speak Your name when it feels uncomfortable, and to stand up for what is right and true in the face of opposition. Let our lives reflect Your grace and mercy to those around us. May our actions speak so loudly that others are drawn to You through us.

Father, we then think of ‘Judaea’ as our broader communities—our towns, cities, and regions. We know that there are many who have yet to experience Your saving grace. Instill in our hearts a burden for those who are lost, who do not yet know the joy of salvation. As Your witnesses, we pray for sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit, guiding us to those who are seeking hope and answers. Equip us with the words to say, the love to share, and the wisdom to navigate conversations that lead toward You.

When we consider ‘Samaria,’ we are reminded of those who may be different from us—culturally, socially, or even ideologically. Teach us, Lord, to break down the barriers that separate us from others, to love those who do not share our beliefs, and to be examples of Your unconditional love. Help us not to shy away from those relationships, but to engage with sensitivity and openness, sharing the Gospel boldly yet lovingly.

Finally, dear Lord, as we ponder the 'uttermost part of the earth,' we are filled with a sense of urgency and responsibility. For You have called us to be witnesses not only in our immediate surroundings but also to the farthest corners of the globe. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are serving as missionaries, often facing tremendous challenges and dangers. Strengthen their resolve, protect them, and provide for their every need as they labor in Your fields.

May we also be willing to contribute—to pray, support, and even go, if called. Let our hearts resonate with the lost and the broken, regardless of distance or culture. Thank You, Father, for the diverse expressions of Your Church around the world.

In closing, Lord, we affirm our commitment to the call You have placed on our lives. Help us to embody Your love, be empowered by Your Spirit, and faithfully share Your message with all whom we encounter. Let Every witness for You bring forth a harvest of souls, as we await Your return with anticipation and hope. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Amen.
