A Prayer of Cleanliness and Obedience to God’s Call
"But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth." - Acts 11:8

Heavenly Father,
We come before You in this sacred moment with humble hearts and open spirits, recognizing Your sovereignty and the marvelous works You have done throughout the ages. Lord, we are reminded of the words spoken by Your servant Peter in Acts 11:8, who said, "But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth."
In this statement, we catch a glimpse of Peter's struggle with the old ways, the traditions of his ancestry, and the deep-seated beliefs that had governed his life until that profound moment. Father, as we reflect on this Scripture, we ask for wisdom and understanding, just as you granted to Peter, to discern Your will for our lives. Let Your Spirit guide our hearts away from that which is common and unclean, so that we may walk in holiness and purity.
Lord, help us to approach You with sincerity, recognizing that our habits, our words, and even our hearts can sometimes be common, unclean, or impure before You. Cleanse us, O God, of anything that does not reflect Your glory. Just as Peter hesitated to accept those things that were deemed unclean, we too may struggle to let go of old mindsets, unholy practices, or traditions that separate us from Your love and purpose.
Father, we pray that by Your grace, we would learn to see the world through Your eyes. Make us a people who actively seek to purify our thoughts and actions, who lean not on our own understanding but surrender to Your divine wisdom. Help us to recognize that what we may deem as unclean or common in our lives could be the very thing that hinders us from stepping into the abundant life You have prepared for us.
Oh Lord, we pray for transformation in our hearts. As Peter was called to reach out to the Gentiles, allow us to break down the barriers in our lives that keep us from loving others as You have called us to. Show us where we practice partiality or hold onto biases, and help us to surrender these to You. In doing so, let us identify our 'clean' and 'unclean' perspectives and attitudes, and lead us to embrace all people as You see them—created in Your image and worthy of Your love.
Teach us, Father, that true cleanliness of heart begins not with what we eat or the rituals we observe, but with a life surrendered to You, filled with love, compassion, and grace. May we cultivate a spirit of humility, always recognizing that the righteousness we seek comes only through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer.
We thank You, Lord, for the gift of Your Word, which enlightens our path and aids in our transformation. As we read and meditate upon it, may our hearts be changed, and may we find courage to step outside of our comfort zones, just as Peter did. Help us to embrace the radical call of the Gospel, to share Your love with those we might consider unclean or unworthy.
May we draw closer to You in prayer, seeking to understand the deep layers of Your will for us and, through our obedience, help us to attract others to Your light. As we share our faith, let our lives reflect Your cleanliness, so that others might see You in our actions and be drawn to Your glorious grace.
In Jesus’ holy name, we pray. Amen.
