A Prayer for Wisdom and Boldness in Proclaiming the Truth of Christ
"Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection." - Acts 17:18

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, seeking Your guidance and understanding as we reflect upon the words found in Acts 17:18. In this scripture, we witness the encounter between Your faithful servant and the philosophers of the Epicureans and the Stoics. A moment that is rich with meaning and significance, reminding us of the diverse and often conflicting worldviews that surround us. Lord, we acknowledge that even in these ancient times, Your truth met opposition, skepticism, and misunderstanding, and we ask for Your wisdom to navigate similar challenges in our own lives.
Father, just as the Apostle Paul traveled through Athens and found himself amidst the great thinkers of his time, we too walk through a world filled with various philosophies and beliefs that stand in stark contrast to the message of the Gospel. We remember how the Athens of old was a center of intellectual pursuit, yet filled with idols and confusion. In this environment, Paul’s message of Jesus and the resurrection was foreign to many, drawing ridicule and dismissal.
We pray today that You grant us the boldness of the Apostle Paul to speak truth into a world that often dismisses it as nonsense. Help us to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ with confidence, knowing that Your Spirit goes before us. Lord, give us the discernment to recognize when we are faced with opinions that seem alluring yet are rooted in darkness. Help us to see through the veils of human reasoning and philosophy that contradict Your eternal truths.
Lord, as we witness the philosophers asking, "What will this babbler say?" let us not fear being labeled or dismissed as foolish for following You. Remind us that the message of the cross is often viewed as foolishness by those who are perishing, yet to us who are being saved, it is the power of God (1 Corinthians 1:18). May we embrace the foolishness of the Gospel with pride, knowing that what seems strange to the world is indeed the core of our faith.
We realize that Paul was preaching Jesus and the resurrection—a message that has the power to transform lives. We ask You to infuse our hearts with the same passion that drove Paul into the city of Athens. May our lives be a testimony to the resurrection of Christ, and may we live in a way that draws others to seek You. Help us to bear witness through our actions, our words, and our love, reflecting Your Son’s grace and truth in a world filled with confusion.
Lord, in our personal encounters—whether in the workplace, among friends, or in public discussions—may we approach conversations with love and respect, yet unwavering in our commitment to share Your truth. Help us to listen well to others, understanding their perspectives while gently and lovingly guiding them to the hope we find in Christ.
We also seek forgiveness for the times we have remained silent, succumbing to fear or discomfort instead of boldly sharing Your love and salvific message. Empower us, O Lord, to break through our insecurities, stepping out in faith to speak of Your goodness, mercy, and grace. Let our hearts resonate with the joy of knowing You, so that we may not hide it under a bushel, but instead let it shine brightly in this dark world.
As we draw near to You, help us to remember the promise in Your Word that we are not alone in this calling. Your Spirit equips us, and Your Word guides us. May we embolden one another in the body of Christ to declare that Jesus Christ is Lord and to invite others to experience the transformative power of His resurrection.
In the name above all names, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
