"And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born." - Acts 22:28

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with grateful hearts, acknowledging the profound truth of our freedom in Christ. As we reflect on Acts 22:28, where the chief captain boasts about acquiring freedom through a great sum, we are reminded that true freedom cannot be bought or earned—rather, it is a gracious gift from You, bestowed upon us freely at the moment of our salvation.

Lord, as Paul stated, “But I was free born.” How humbling it is to understand that we have been born into a new life, a life that is free from the bondage of sin and empowered by Your Spirit! Your Word tells us that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Thank You for the liberty we experience through our relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Father, we ask that You open our eyes to the magnitude of this freedom that You have granted us. It is so easy to forget, amidst the struggles and trials of life, the incredible gift we possess. Help us to live in a manner worthy of the freedom we have in Christ—freedom from the guilt and shame of our past, and freedom to walk boldly into the future You have planned for us.

Lord, we pray for those who do not yet know this freedom. We lift up our family, friends, and communities who are still ensnared by the chains of sin and despair. May Your light shine through us, illuminating the path of salvation. Help us to be vessels of Your grace, speaking truth and love, so that others may come to know the joy of being free born.

As we consider the chief captain’s reliance on wealth to secure his status, remind us that worldly wealth is fleeting. Our true inheritance is not found in riches, but in everlasting life through Jesus Christ. Teach us to set our minds on things above and not on the fleeting successes of this world.

Father, we acknowledge that You are the ultimate Source of our freedom. We confess that at times we have sought validation and acceptance in places outside of You—perhaps thinking that status or material possessions would bring us happiness. Forgive us for relying on earthly treasures instead of the eternal security we find in Your presence.

Help us, Lord, to stand firm in our identity as Your children. May we boldly proclaim, like Paul, that we were born free—not because of anything we have done, but solely by the grace of God. Help us to embrace our identity in circumstances that may feel binding. Remind us that true freedom is found in submission to Your will and in the abundant life we are called to live.

Lord, we also pray for those who perceive their freedom to be constrained by the demands of society or the expectations of others. Give them courage to rise above these pressures and to assert their identity in Christ above all else. Help them to navigate the challenges of life with the knowledge that they are free in You, regardless of external circumstances.

May we, as your church, be a beacon of hope that points others to the ultimate freedom found in Christ. Let us carry the message of Your love and redemption to the ends of the earth. Inspire us to trust in Your provision, knowing that You supply all our needs as we seek first Your Kingdom.

In closing, we thank You, Lord, for the gift of freedom. May we never take it for granted, but instead, let our lives reflect the gratitude we have for the grace You have given us. Let us cherish our new birth in You and use our freedom to serve, love, and honor You every day.

In the name of Jesus, we pray,

Amen.
