A Prayer for Wisdom and Integrity in Leadership
"¶ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation." - Daniel 5:17

Heavenly Father,
In the quiet of this moment, I come before You with a heart full of gratitude and reverence. I acknowledge Your sovereignty and authority over all things. As I meditate on the words of Daniel 5:17, where he boldly proclaimed to King Belshazzar, 'Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation,' I am reminded of the calls to integrity and the wisdom You provide to those who seek it.
Lord, I ask for the kind of courage that Daniel displayed. In a world full of distractions and temptations, where the pursuit of wealth and position can often overshadow the pursuit of truth, I pray for a steadfast spirit that holds firmly to righteousness. Help me to prioritize Your truth above all else, even when it may not align with the desires of the powerful or the expectations of my peers. Give me the strength to say ‘no’ to worldly rewards when they come at the cost of my integrity and my relationship with You.
Father, I seek wisdom—like the wisdom that Daniel displayed. When faced with challenges, may I be able to discern Your guidance amidst the noise of this world. Help me to understand and navigate the complexities that arise in leadership, whether in my personal life, my workplace, or within my community. Teach me to listen for Your gentle voice and to trust in Your understanding, even when the path ahead seems unclear.
As I reflect on Daniel's commitment to his purpose and his refusal to accept gifts that promote falsehood or power, I pray that I, too, can recognize the cost of such acceptance. Lord, allow me to be aware of the gifts and rewards that pull me away from Your path. Cultivate in me a heart that seeks Your will more than any worldly advantage. Let my motivations align with Your purpose, so my actions resonate with integrity and authenticity.
Lord, as I navigate relationships with those in authority, grant me the wisdom to speak truth with love. Enable me to share interpretations and insights with clarity, just as Daniel did, bringing light to the darkness, and hope to the weary. Help me to approach difficult conversations with the spirit of humility and grace, always seeking to uplift rather than to condemn. May my words be seasoned with understanding, allowing those around me to feel Your presence and love through me.
I pray, too, for our leaders—those who sat upon thrones and wield authority in our nations and communities. Grant them discernment to seek Your wisdom and not the fleeting rewards that come from the world. Deliver them from the temptations of pride and self-interest, reminding them of their responsibilities to those they lead. Teach them the importance of listening to wise counsel, just as King Belshazzar turned to Daniel for truth, even when it was difficult to bear.
Lord, I also lay before You my own leadership responsibilities, whether big or small. Help me to lead with compassion, wisdom, and integrity. May I be the kind of leader who prioritizes the well-being of others over the accumulation of wealth or status. Let my actions reflect Your love and grace, guiding those who look to me for support and direction.
Thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth. Surround me with Your wisdom as I endeavor to live out my days in a manner that is pleasing to You. May I be a beacon of light in times of darkness, consistently showing forth Your righteousness.
In the name of Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
